Editor's Notes and Comments:
Product Description:
This second edition presents a thorough revision of Cranial Nerves. The format reflects the shift in teaching methods from didactic lectures to problem-based learning. It maintains the very first edition's approach of blending the neuro- and gross anatomy of the cranial nerves as seen through color-coded functional drawings of the pathways from the periphery of the body to the brain (sensory input), and from the brain to the periphery (motor output). The content is targeted to students of the health sciences who may be studying neuroanatomy and gross anatomy for the very first time. It will prove to be a valuable quick reference for residents in neurology, neurosurgery, otolaryngology, and maxillofacial surgery.

This is a pretty good book that has excellent illustrations and a great chart that breaks down each of the nerves including their origin, pathway, and what signs to expect in the event of lesion.

This book has been exceedingly helpful for my swallowing disorders class. The pictures are clear and have the perfect amount of details. Also, the case histories are effective at helping to apply what is learned in the reading. I highly recommend this book.

This is the second edition of the book with the orange cover (ASIN: 1550090755). The main difference is the shift to problem based learning - each chapter begins with a clinical scenario which is followed through the chapter to explain the functioning of the nerve.
But each example can only cover a narrow subset of the possible nerve misfunction, so this approach makes the detail uneven. The cranial nerves are a fascinating enough subject not to need this approach to keep me interested, and as a craniosacral therapist I wanted more detail.
Note also that although the entire book comes on the CD-ROM as a .pdf, this file is protected and you will not be able to print any of the images separately, which would have been nice for my own learning.
