This decorative piece has one large owl and five small ones. It is completely handmade and hand-painted by Peruvian artisans from the Sierra region. Artists hand select native mate gourds, then carefully sculpt them using various sized chisels. The mate comes in different shapes and sizes making each piece a truly original work of art.
Mate gourds are the oldest and most traditional examples of Peruvian crafts. The Mate (legenaria vulgaris) grows on a climbing plant that thrives in the dry warm regions of the valleys and lower eastern slopes of the Andes. Because of the conditions, the mate gourd's shell becomes as hard as wood.
The handcrafted nature of this product will produce minor differences in design and sizing. Subtle variations will occur from piece to piece, adding to its unique qualities. Measurements may vary slightly.
