During a recent trip to Afghanistan, Overstock.com President Patrick Byrne and Worldstock Director Neelab Kanishka met with these artisans, most of whom are women who have lost husbands or fathers during the years of turmoil in this troubled land. Worldstock works with these women on a contract basis, and is now the largest source of employment for Afghani women.
Each of these ensembles is made by an individual artisan, so the embroidery pattern may vary slightly, adding to each piece's unique charm. Worldstock prices these goods as inexpensively as possible in order to drive up volume and create as many employment opportunities for these talented women as we can.
