An artist's touch is added to the old classic. A bold, curved square of sterling silver is juxtaposed with a large, bezel-set circle of Roman glass creating a contemporary feel with a piece of glass that is over 1700 years old. The chain features heavy, woven sterling silver with a sturdy lobster clasp and is oxidized for an antique look. The result is a striking balance between Old World class and 21st Century design, making this necklace perfect for the swankiest wedding or the most casual brunch.
The Roman glass shards in this necklace are found on archaeological digs in Israel where the cities of the Roman Empire used to be. A story card comes with the necklace that explains how the layers of color build up over a period of up to 2000 years.
This necklace is made in a small, multi-ethnic studio in the north of Israel, between Haifa and Nazareth. Israelis, Russian emigres, and Bedouin women have continued to work together through the strife around them. Angie Olami, the designer of the necklace, writes, 'they are very heartened to see their work on Worldstock.com. It makes them feel connected to a world that they feel quite isolated from at the moment.'
