No major complaints. I'll preface this review by saying I have not read the very first book in the series. That said, I feel this story more than holds it own as a stand-alone book.
The plot is the stongest part of the book. It moves at a staedy pace, continually adding depth until the climax, which actually occurs about 30 pages from the end. There is one significant plot twist that's not all that surprising, but it's still well done and you're never totally sure until it's revealed.
Character wise, I find Harper and Raseen to be the most interesting. Harper is principled, decisive, and caring. He proves that a 'desk man' can be just as much a hero as someone in the field. Raseen maintains an aura of mysteriousness throughout. You're never really sure what her motivation is until the very end. Even then, there is some ambiguity.
Kealey, Kharmai, and Vanderveen are average characters. Each are fairly standard for their role, but none stand out above the crowd as it relates to fictional characters. Crane, Ford, and Harper were a little less interesting. Ford, in particular, was somewhat annoying.
Average characters aside, the story itself is unsettling in it's plausability. It makes me wonder how many similar plots there have been that the average citizen is unaware. As a result, I want to salute all the real heroes represented by Kealey, Harper, and Kharmai for what they do on a daily basis.

I was thinking that the author know his stuff until I read his various descriptions of routing a truck from Montreal to New York city. No one would go through Fort Erie, Ontario to get to NYC from Montreal. Then he says the driver took I-95 from Fort Erie to Syracuse. Sorry, I-95 is no where on that route. I question the author's dedication if he can't even use google maps to do some basic research. Too bad as it put a damper on an otherwise enjoyable book.

This book picks up where "The American" left off. President Dave
Brenneman is locked in a struggle with California governor Richard Fiske.
The issue in the election is the Iraq war.Ryan Kealey returns in this book
as the hero. He is reunited with his partner Naomi Kharmai. They make the
discovery that William Vanderveen(jason March) is still alive. He has him a new partner Yasmin Raseen. She is a stone killer like him.Ryan and Naomi
discover a plan to cause death and destruction at the U.N. The former Vice
President of Iraq has initiated this plan as a method to return to power.
Kealey and Kharmai can get no one to believe them. They are running out of time to stop this catastrophe from happening. This book has an action packed ending.Be sure to read this book to see who wins the confrontation between Kealey and Vanderveen. A definite good book.
