Product Description:
Baffled by a seemingly supernatural connection to his critically injured sister, an FBI special agent heads to the Oregon coast in search of a more plausible explanation for his sudden ESP, only to discover more puzzling mysteries.
Catherine Coulter's very first three New York Times bestselling suspense thrillers (The Cove, The Maze, and The Target) dazzled readers with extraordinary plot twists, incomparable characters, and elegant, tough-to-solve mysteries. Writing about The Target, Publishing houses Weekly called it 'an absorbing read.' Now comes a new tale of riveting suspense, a novel in which a small town falls prey to pure evil.
FBI agent Ford MacDougal--'Mac'--is recovering from a terrorist car bombing when his sister appears to purposely drive her Porsche off an Oregon cliff. Curiously, Mac felt as if he was in the car with her as she sailed toward the sea, even though he was really in a hospital bed on the other side of the country.
By the time Mac arrives in Portland, his sister--Dr. Jilly Bartlett, a medical researcher--has come out of the coma she's been in for four days. But after a few scant hours with her brother, Jilly vanishes without a trace. In searching for her, Mac gets a different story from everyone he encounters. When the local sheriff enlists Mac's aid in a puzzling murder of an elderly resident, Mac little suspects that the case connects to his sister's disappearance. FBI agents Lacey Sherlock and Dillon Savich (last seen in The Target) join Mac to ride shotgun, only to find their search leading from a small town on the Oregon coast to the rain forests of Costa Rica. Together, they must escape relentless pursuers as well as the hostile jungle itself before discovering the true nature of the evil at The Edge.

Setting: Edgerton, Oregon, present day
Sensuality Rated by buyers 7
Following the sucess of The Cove, The Maze, and The Target, Coulter again delights readers with her latest offering, The Edge. Recovering in a D.C. hospital from a Tunisian car bomb accident, FBI agent Ford MacDougal awakens from a violent dream in which his sister Jilly drives off a cliff and into the ocean. Ford feels her fear as well as her anger and agony over the betrayal by someone named Laura, and shares the utter stillness as the frigid waters engulf her. The subsequent morning, he receives the news that Jilly was indeed in a car accident. And when he arrives in Edgerton, Oregon, it quickly becomes obvious that something mysterious and deadly is going on in the quiet, little town. Add a quirky cast of characters, including a sexy, undercover DEA agent named--you guessed it--Laura, a drug that improves sex exponentially but has the unfortunate side effect of making its users psychotic, and you've got all the ingredients for a fast-paced, can't-put-down thriller. --Alison Trinkle

Savich and Sherlock are back to help Ford MacDougal, who appeared in THE MAZE, find his missing sister who had driven off a cliff in Oregon.
Events are compelling, bazaar and fast paced but character development is static. At times it seems as if one is reading the same story over and over.

I just finished "The Edge", the 4th in the FBI Series. I liked it okay (if Savich and Sherlock are included, then it's worth the read). However, some of it was a bit unbelieveable and seemed like the ending left lots of questions. I got impatient with the 4 agents lost in the Jungle and finally skimmed to the point they wandered out of there but then things seemed to just tie up quickly and not what I was expecting. I didn't dislike it but just wasn't my favorite of the series do far. "The Maze" was my favorite and the rest haven't measured up to that so far.

The book was a slow read. There was just not enough action to keep things going. I have read other books by this author and I can see that this is not one of the best releases. Still I will continue to buy those written by Coulter as everyone has a "bad release" now and again.

The Edge is a good book. I enjoyed it. It was kind of slow but not too slow.
I received it in great shape.

I'm a big fan of Catherine Coulter's FBI Series. So far, I've read six books from the series and have loved all of them...except The Edge. While she does bring back her best characters (the husband and wife team of Savich and Sherlock), the other characters lack depth. The character of Laura (a DEA agent and main love interest) was predictable and I never thought that I found out enough about her. Also, I wasn't fond of the very first person writing style she used in this one. While Mac (the very first person) is a good character, there's just so much action going on in these books that I don't want to be limited to the view of one person.
As in the rest of the FBI Thrillers, the action was good. The storyline focused around the endeavor to bust a plot involving the development of a dangerous new drug. But, some of storyline was a bit perverse to me. The effects of the drug seemed over the top and I never really thought of the two lead characters the same again after a particular scene involving a drugged-up Mac attempting to rape Laura while she was tied-up. I understand shock value, but this was a bit much for me. Plus, there doesn't seem to be a very good ending; there was really no closure.
If you're reading this to keep up with the series (as I was), be prepared to wonder where the magic of the other books went. It's not a bad read, but it definitely lacks some key elements.
