Editor's Notes and Comments:

Product Description:
Featuring two PsyCop novels, Among the Living and Criss Cross, this volume will leave you on the edge of you seat, wanting more! In Among the Living, Victor is a PsyCop, also known as a member of the Paranormal Investigation team. He's not popular with the living, as most people consider him a little odd, but the ghosts of violent crimes can't wait to tell him all about their deaths. His new case pairs him with Jacob, a non-psychic who works in sex crimes. Victor and Jacob have a history, and as they and work together to solve a set of serial crimes, they begin to explore the possibilities of a future. The case is like nothing they've ever experienced, and soon Victor finds that he's the only one who can solve the crime, and save Jacob's life. If he's not too late. In Criss Cross, Vic figures life is pretty good. He's got his lover, Jacob. He's got some time off to go fishing, and his new partner in the Paranormal Investigation Team buys the coffee. Naturally, nothing that good can last. When Vic starts to see ghosts everywhere, things go very wrong, resulting in a trip to his doctor, who says he's got problems. Vic's friends tell Jacob he has to leave for Vic to get better, sex is starting to get dangerous, and Vic's abilities are getting out of hand. Can he and Jacob figure out what's happening in time to save Vic from becoming a pawn in a dangerous game?

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Read these books!
This is a great series to read if you're looking for engaging characters and great writing. Few authors published by mainstream companies come even close to producing the calibre of writing found in these novels. The protagonist is (in a somewhat odd way) very likeable, and I found it quite easy to emphasize with him. And of course, the sex scenes are fantastically written, and add to the story rather than taking away from it or taking over it)

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Let's hear it for escapeism
I've always loved books where the characters had use of more than just the normal five senses. Call them psychics, or whatever, they always fascinated me. I always wanted to have powers like that, just like I always wanted to run off and join the circus, or mutate and join the X-Men.
Reading books like this, lets me have that fantasy back for just a little while.
Not to mention the fact that it has to beautiful men banging each others brains out. That always puts a grin on my face.
All in all the book just made me happy. That's really all I'm looking for in a piece of fiction.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Now this is a great author!
Now this is what I want from a gay paranormal romance/detective story. Well developed main and secondary characters, a tightly woven plot, a bad guy/thing that's truly scary, two guys in the lead that are truly hot and have great chemistry. No glaring grammar/punctuation errors or typos, sex that's bone melting instead of boring and/or repetitive, and actual side stories for the secondary characters to give a real-life feel to the story.

This is the kind of writing I'm looking for and I've waded through way too many mediocre and outright bad gay paranormal books to find it. JCP writes convincing characters, puts together a great plot, keeps a narrative going in a way that made it near impossible for me to stop reading, and world builds liek whoa. I can't wait for the subsequent one in the series.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Engaging paranormal mystery with a romantic flair
I picked this book up on a whim and was delighted to find an honestly good, hot story. I finished it in the same day I unpacked it from the shipping box.

What pleased me about this book:

Victor has a job he doesn't care much for, a talent that makes his life a misery, and the depressing realization that there isn't much better for him out there. He spends most of his days in a drugged-out haze to help deal with the ghosts and doesn't have any friends. He's also gay in a traditionally homophobic career and not entirely comfortable with that either. He could easily come off a self-pitying whiner who spends pages dwelling on the suffering of his life, but instead he is portrayed as a sympathetic, likable guy who just isn't happy with his life -- and with good reason.

Victor's love interest, Jacob Marks, while not a particularly complex character, presents a perfect counter-point to Vic's awkwardness with his grinning self-confidence. He's handsome, talented, capable, likes his life and his job -- Vic's baffled "and this hunk wants to be with ME?" attitude is understandable and easy to connect with, but at the same time, we can see what Jacob finds so appealing about him. It's enjoyable to watch their relationship develop and Vic struggling to figure out his place in it. I was never left with that annoyed sense of "wish-fulfillment" that I get from stories with overly bland characters attracting overly amazing love interests.

The plot is fun and nicely paced. It's no mind twister, but it will draw you right in and keep you entertained and interested in what will happen subsequent right up until the very end. There are no holes or inconsistence, and it's not constantly put on the shelf for the sake of sex.

Now about the Sex...

This is no traditional romance filled with scenes of ever-building passions leading to a final, firework cumulation between the two characters. Jacob and Victor's relationship is dirty back-room hip-grinding from the get go, and the deeper feelings and connections start developing from there on. The sex scene themselves are numerous and fantastic. They run short, sweet, and hot, and are joyfully free of silly euphemisms or meandering internal monologues on "feelings". They never overwhelm the plot or take place of good character development.

I loved all the side characters; they were as well handled as the main character and were never marginalized for the sake of the main romance.

Overall, I highly recommend this book for a good, fun read.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - PsyCop Partners
Contains two novellas (Among the Living, about a supernatural serial killer, at 118 pages, and Criss Cross, about a dangerous road trip, at 158 pages). Vic is a wonderful, quirky, tough-guy character and his love affair with hot cop Jacob Marks is erotic and believable. Great premise, strong plots, and fast-paced mystery.
