Product Description:
Jill and Carrie--both married with teenage children--meet one day during Jill's lunch break at a local park. Soon a friendship is forged. A friendship that deepens with each visit.
Jill's husband still lives and breathes the coach's life, a life that leaves him little time to spare for Jill. Left on her own more and more, Jill finds herself searching for the indefinable something that has been missing all her life.
Married to a successful businessman, Carrie Howell retired early from a career in real estate to spend more time with her teenage boys, and to pursue her lone passion--painting. She, too, has felt for some time that something is missing from her world.
The Cottage is the story of two women pulled by a force stronger than their marriages, stronger than themselves. The story of Jill and Carrie. Two women. One love.

Geri Hill's The Cottage was the saddest Geri book I have ever read...In it one of the characters dies, and the other makes great discoveries about herself including Lesbianism...and ofcourse the facts of why her marriage does not work...A great portrayal of "going through the motions". In other older books that I have read with these subjects the Men are always portrayed one diminsionally nothing new there. In the intro Geri thanks some people for their help with this. Face it if one is a Lesbian she probably has never lived with a man. I think she did a believable job with this and made it loving and poignent not a happy ending which is one of the reasons I read these books.

I knew in the opening pages that this was not going to be a typical happy ending story...and it wasn't. However, I really enjoyed the rest of the story. =0)

like many of the other reviewers I too own most of Gerri Hill's books.
I was sorry I bought this book.
There is a great sad story here about friendship and loss. But Gerri never explores it. She leaves too many dangling questions. No, I don't think a solution should come with every book.
This book was short and a bit rushed. There could of been so much more to tell us and make us feel more involved in the story.
I think reviewers mostly lesbian ones - would rather be kind and positive ,then give an honest review.
I felt cheated out of a story that could have been and after finishing this book - the only thing on my mind was WTHF!

I do enjoy Gerri Hills books. This book was a great change of pace. Though this book is a real tear-jerker, and doesn't follow her usual light-hearted rythm, I'm glad that she is pushing her comfort zone. She is an excellent writer with great dialogue and charatar development. It would be great to see the world of lesbian writing move beyond the basic romance and fantasy books into the world of real literture. Gerri Hill has the ablity, as long as she keeps taking the risks.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and I am glad I decided to buy the Cottage and see for myself. I too am an avid reader of Gerri Hill and still find this book heartfelt and a delightful short read. I have re-read it again and teared at the end for a second time. The story moves along and her writing takes the reader everywhere from the lake to the cottage in full detailed strides. Thank you Gerri for yet another entertaining story that I enjoyed immensely!
