Product Description:
After last volume's surprising betrayal and bloodbath, Amamiya - the multiple personality detective of the Isono Criminal Research Lab - faces a new threat in the form of the young 'Lucy 7' deviants! In the midst of new murderous messes, bumbling Detective Sasayama finds himself in a criminal profiler contest fueled by the Japanese media. An American profiler arrives to work on a decade-old serial killer case at an elementary school, but the real group that he represents and his ultimate goals are as mysterious as MPD-Psycho's huge 'barcode puzzle.' The Gakuso Society pulls some strings, the American begins to hunt down children, and this volume of MPD-Psycho promises to be the most titillating and confusing yet - but you'll love the ride! Jump on, as more players enter the fray and more inventive atrocities abound. Fans of the Takashi Miike MPD-Psycho television adaptation will find more clues to the 'barcode puzzle,' more inventive murders, and surprisingly humorous moments in this smart manga series

When I read through the pages of the 5th volume of "MPD Psycho," it took me a long while to truly wrap my brain around what was going on. This particular book not only has brand new characters escorted to the forefront, but it also spills onto the concrete layers upon bleeding layers of plot twists involving a criminal profiling contest, viral MP3s, genetic experiments, and a corrupt government conspiracy. Don't worry, though...this latest book is not the least bit disappointing for both lovers of gore horror and smart thriller dialogue.
The clueless Inspector Toru Sasayama of the Japanese Police Department takes part in a contest of wits before a national T.V. audience. His formidable opponent is Michelle Partner, a former FBI agent who flies all the way from the United States to compete against Sasayama in trying to solve a decades-old murder case situated within an abandoned city complex. Unfortunately, an unknown killer is snuffing out members of the news staff one by one, even going so far as to dismember a female reporter and leaving her limbless corpse in a refrigerator. Meanwhile, a power struggle has caused dissention among members of the Gakuso Society, and a separate faction secretly developed project "Lucy 7," a group of intelligent elementary school children with brand new serial numbers tattooed on their eyes (most likely the result of an advanced cloning process). Their primal desire to kill is artificially induced by a raving pop Lucy Monostone remix, which is played on Internet and downloaded into cell phones. The two people in charge of controlling "Lucy 7" are a heartless female superior known only as "Mama," and...another Kazuhiko Amamiya (or rather the original Amamiya who was pronouned dead 20 years ago in the devastating fire that destroyed the psychiatric clinic where his mother worked). It's later revealed that Mr. Michelle Partner is not who he appears to be...he is actually a trained sociopathic assasin hired to exterminate the Lucy children one by one. Even worse, the hunt was authorized and funded by top ranking leaders of Gakuso who have made ties with the Japanese Government. And let's not forget the existence of the dark-haired teenager Tetora Nishizono. Unlike the other members of 'Lucy 7," Tetora is not just another copy; he's an original upgrade who can transfer Shinji Nishizono's psychotic personality into other bar coders and possess their bodies upon contact. Originally taken into custody by the Minster of Justice Tatsuo Onihigata, Tetora is sent by him and Akira Kitou as a weapon to eliminate both Partner and the Lucy children as part of a massive political cover-up. With two Amamiyas and two Nishizonos on the loose, it's only a matter of time before Detective Kazuhiko's confused mind is violently eaten away like a homeless cadaver being pecked by ravenous crows.
