I got this one out of my local library to use in conjunction with a few other books to learn about stage fighting. It's not a bad book, and it goes into a lot of stuff, like swordplay, hand-to-hand combat, and warm-ups. However, it doesn't go into very much detail at all on some of the moves. Most of the time is spent telling you how to warm up, and some of the warm-ups are really weird. Get Combat Mime: A Non-Violent Approch to Stage Violence for a better understanding of how to do hand-to-hand illusions safely, and leave this one on the shelf.

Stage Combat: Fisticuffs, Stunts, and Swordplay for Theater and Film
I only needed the book to learn how to slap someone realistically on stage, but it has a lot of other information. I would suggest using it with a practise partner as it is hard to carry out the slap or other combat without a live person to work with. It's more for theater than film.

Like the cover, the book is beatiful, fresh - just, in my opinion, not very focused on actual stage combat. For a book of 160 pages, it spends a lot of time on warm up, acting exercises, asian weapons and even wires. All of which is qualified information, I just wished that it was more thorough on the actual stage combat, with step-by-step illustrations, clearer structure, and a stronger choice and more devotion to a few points it really wants to make.
While I usually like brief books and books that dare to have their own take on a subject, I felt that this one should be more systematic to help beginners, and more thorough for the advanced student.
