Product Description:
Who is more unfaithful in love, men or women? This is the crux of Marivaux's lean story of love, desire, betrayal, and passion, a cautionary tale about the danger and intrigue of seduction. First performed by the American Repertory Theatre to critical acclaim, this translation by Gideon Lester is set on a contemporary battlefield of the sexes, with the performers going at one another with wit and passion.

I've read two other English translations of this play (by Neil Bartlett and Timberlake Wertenbaker, and I think that this is the best of them all. The language is updated to this century and decade, but not so much that there are colloquial phrases. This translation has a great flow and is perfect for any venue.
This comedy by Marivaux is an extremely funny look at the battle of the sexes. Whether for a student production or a professional theater company, you can't go wrong with this play.

Marivaux's comedy, The Dispute, is one of those wonderful classics which somehow got lost over time. It is as witty as any Oscar Wilde play and is fertile ground for duologues, perfect for scene auditions. Because of its relatively unknown status, The Dispute makes for a even better choice for a classical piece to present as it is a refreshing break away from overdone Shakespeare and Oscar Wilde plays.
