Chelsea is lonely. She just moved to Shadyside about a month ago and only has one friend, Nina. She has never been on a date before. She goes to Shadyside high and is a waitress in her dad's restaurant. There are two new kids who moved into Shadyside. One of them is Will. He is in Chelsea's homeroom. Chelsea really liked him. There is another boy who just moved to Shadyside. His name is Sparks. He came into Chelsea's restaurant for some coffee. They talked for a while and he asked her out. She was surprised and didn't answer. Her dad interrupted her and Sparks got mad and stormed out of the restaurant. Sparks seemed dangerous so Chelsea didn't want to go out with him. Then, after school, Will asked Chelsea to go on a walk with him. She did. He asked her out to the movies and she said yes. Will was shy like Chelsea. He wanted their date to be a secret because it their very first date. They went to the movies and to Chelsea's house. After the date the FBI came to Chelsea's house asking if she had seen a guy with curly dark brown hair and looked like he worked out because he was a crazed killer. Chelsea realized that Sparks fit the description. She told the agent about Sparks. When Chelsea was at the restaurant Sparks came by and was trying to catch her. She ran trying to dodge him because he was going to kill her. He tripped and landed on the grill and burned his hand. He told her to call an ambulance. She called the agent. Soon the agent came by with an ambulance and arrested him. Later Chelsea was at her house with Will. She told him about Sparks and how their date wasn't a secret because she told Nina about it. Will told her to invite Nina over so she did. After she hung up the phone it rang. She picked it up and it was the agent. He said that sparks wasn't who he was looking for. Chelsea was looking into the other room when she realized that Will also fit the description and he had a cord in between his hands. He was going to kill her...

This is the one of the many books of the Fear Street series, and it's really good. Fear Street is a series about scary and/or supernatural events that happen to teenagers in a ficitional town called Shadyside. In this book, a sweet, shy girl who has trouble with boys happens to meet two interesting ones. Too bad one's a deranged killer, the mystery is, which one? This has a pretty good twist ending and gives a good taste of future books in the series.Pulitizer material it's not, but for young teens, or anyone wanting a quick thrilling read, this suits the bill just fine.

First Date is one of the best books in the Fear Street series. Although predictable, it still had style and substance, and actually contained some very suspensful parts, unlike other Fear Street books.
The book describes 15 year old Chelsea Richards, a shy, lonley, high school student who is looking for love.
She soon meets two boys, a 20 year old high school dropout by the name of Tim Sparks, and a new boy at school named Will Blakely.
Soon both of them ask her out, although when she finds out the FBI are on the trail of a serial killer who looks alot like Tim Sparks, she rats him out and chooses to go on her very first date with Will Blakely.
Unfortunately for Chelsea, Will is the actual serial killer. His real name is Lonnie Mayes, and he kills girls who look like his mother or his sister in each town he visits.
Will Chelsea's very first date also be her last?

I really disliked how heartless Will Blakely was..other than that this was a great read.

Chelsea Richards has never had a very first date, but she's not the only new kid in town noticing that. Two boys, two new, cute boys ask her out. One is a shy, sweet boy who goes to her high school. The other is a rough, tough dropout she meets at her dad's coffee shop. Chelsea is so excited, her very first date! How can she know that one of her "first" dates could lead to her funeral?
The cast of characters includes Chelsea a pretty, young girl who plays the saxophone and is slightly overweight. She is timid and tolerant, but can be panicky at times. Will Blakely is humble, kind and shy, whereas, Tim Sparks gives the impression of being wild and tough. Nina, Chelsea's friend, is a short, cute blonde, slightly selfish at times, but also friendly, relaxed and easygoing.
Although he may not use the greatest literary techniques, R.L. Stine does have the ability to build suspense that keeps you begging for more. Readers can relate to his language and true-to-life conflicts with ease. Stine promotes the mood of the novel with strong verb choices and some wonderful imagery. The author's point of view seems to wallow in the shadows of the plot, as a third person who is telling the story as though he knows what will happen. By leaving a little bit of foreshadowing at the end of each chapter, R.L. Stine can be sure that readers will not stop reading until Chelsea's fate is determined.
