Product Description:
Three men. Three secrets.
One chance at redemption.
New York Times bestselling author Stephen Frey delivers a mesmerizing new thriller where life and death are played out against the backdrop of America's favorite game.
Sarasota, Florida: Forced to retire from his job as a scout for the New York Yankees, Jack Barrett is just getting by in a small Florida town when his daughter drags him to watch the local minor-league team play. It's a night that will change his life. Jack spots a remarkable player named Mikey Clemant, a kid whose amazing natural skill on the field is overshadowed by his bad attitude and solitary habits. In Clemant, Jack thinks he might have found his ticket back to the big time. But the young man has a secret that will put all of Jack's plans -- and maybe even his life -- in jeopardy.
Queens, New York: Johnny Bondano is the premier hit man for the Lucchesi crime family. Ruthless and cold-blooded but with a strict moral code, Johnny is given instructions to find and kill a man who took the life of a crime boss's only grandson. He suspects the family isn't telling him everything about his latest assignment, but to question his orders is tantamount to suicide.
As these three men's destinies converge, loyalties are tested and dreams collide with violent and unpredictable results. Forced Out is a nonstop, tightly wrought tale of suspense by a true master of page-turning fiction.

I have been a Frey fan for several years. I just finished Forced Out in 2 days, as others have said you cannot put it down. Wasn't sure Frey could go outside finance and make a readable novel but he proved he could.
One of the best stories I had read in a long time with developed characters and believable situations and everyone doesn't win or live in the end.
You should put this on the top of your Christmas list, great book and great author. He outdid himself and I hope he does one on Football next.....

The plot has been described in detail by Amazon and by multiple reviewers, so I'll just proceed with my impressions of the novel.
This was a little hard for me to get into at first. This book was a little slow in starting up, but once it got going, it took off at breakneck speed and didn't let up until the end. So why a 4 instead of a 5? The mafia characters where sort of like charicatures. Also, some of the scenes were a little too gruesome for me.
I enjoyed Frey's writing stye and will likely read another one of his novels in the near future.

Forced Out is without a doubt a sappy read. Stephen Frey must have been in the throws of recrovery from the maudlin mood of writer's block to produce this drivel. This departure from the highly interesting financial themed novels is comparatively a flop. The characters are overwrought. A mobster, his hired killers, a has-been baseball scout and his saccharine daughter and her involvements. The baseball theme is boring. The trivial deaths of major characters give this blather of a tale a tag of "Don't Bother to Read."

Being always entertained by the concept of a hit man, I found one of the characters most interesting. Johnny Bandano, who is a hit man for the Lucchesi crime family, receives a contract so in the story he hunts for a killer. Johnny's character and story intertwine with another story. The second character involves the scouting part of baseball, and is about an aged, former major league baseball scout named Jack Barrett. Bandano's story centers in Queen, New York and Barrett's story is located in Sarasota, Fla.
There are several sub-characters in these stories who are treated with a masterful description of their personal lives as each relates to Bandano or Barrett.
As the plot continues, the reader is led on the journey of how these stories come together. This is the primary mystery of the book, and when this finally occurs the reader will need to judge how the crafted details
are played out. Stephen Frey is a great mystery writer, and he does a reasonably good job with this entertaining thriller.

This is a fast-paced story about, Jack, a retired scout for the New York Yankees who discovers a young ball player named Mikey Clemant, while attending a local minor-league game. Jack thinks this discovery could be his ticket back to baseball.
Not being much of a baseball fan, I was surprised that I enjoyed the novel as much as I did. It does start a little slow, but the story picks up quite well until the somewhat disappointing ending. All in all, still an enjoyable read.
