Andrea Kane is on Fire!!! I was more than pleasantly surprised since this is one of her earliest books and she still managed to make an outstanding job at it! I am a fan of Mystery/Romance books and have read more than my fair share. After reading this book (as well as her other books), all I can say is that you are missing out if you haven't read one... I have a feeling Ms. Kane will go far... If you are looking for the perfect blend of Mystery and Romance then Andrea Kane is what you need :-)

It's a good story, but the identity of the villan and the ending of the story were evident way too earlier on in the book.

Carson Brooks, nearing 50 and a successful perfume magnate, is shot from behind in his office by an unknown assailant. Luckily, his friend and protege and corporate counsel, Dylan Newport, is working late and is able to call the ambulance and get help. On the way to the hospital as Carson fears he is dying, he asks Dylan to be sure to finish finding if there was a child from a sperm donation he made 27 years ago. Stan Hager the COO of Carson's company Ruisseau Fragrance also knows of the sperm donation as he worked at the fertility clinic at the time. He helps Dylan to quickly find out and then locate the child of that donation, Sabrina Radcliffe.
Carson is NOT, as many reviewers missed here, trying to find Sabrina for a kidney -- he didn't even know he needs a kidney yet when he was shot. Carson wants to find a child if he/she exists as he is getting older and realizes he has missed out on the normal wife, children, etc. that he would have had. Carson has a girlfriend of just over a year, Susan, who operates a charity that helps teenagers with tutoring and scholarships and that Carson donates generously to.
Dylan after looking in on Carson and seeing that while he is weak he is fighting, flies to New Hampshire to meet up with Sabrina at her offices. Sabrina is a corporate management consultant and a chip off the old block, so to speak. Her mother and grandparents are of a very old and highly respected family in Boston. Sabrina and Dylan have very different backgrounds and approaches to life but one thing that have in common is honesty and frankness. Sabrina agrees to meet Carson but reserve judgement on whether, if it is needed, she will be tested to see if she could be a kidney donor.
As Carson gets Sabrina more involved in his life and his company and as Dylan and others become more involved in her life as well, Sabrina begins to see things in a different light and to also bring her unique business and personal perspective to the company and Carson's personal life.
Danger soon surrounds her and Dylan and as the mysteries are resolved, the two of them grow closer.
A great read.

Carson has been shot and the only thing that will save his life is a kidney transplant, and what better match than a biological child.
Dylan finds management consultant Sabrina Radcliffe, who reluctantly agrees to meet Carson but they immediately bond. When she takes over the reins to run the company in Carson's absence, she and Dylan discover that she is in danger of becoming the subsequent victim of a killer who will do anything to get their hands on a secret perfume formula.
The story has a great premise - Kane keeps the romance light and the suspense lighter (unfortunately). The culprit is easy to guess, and the romance between the main characters is a bit abrupt. But overall, Kane's writing keeps this one interesting.

I really don't think it's that easy that someone calls you and tells you that your father -which you never saw- is dying and needs a kidney transplant and you just leave everything and go save him.
In spite of that little problem you'll enjoy reading this book from start till end. You won't have any inkling who's the bad guy and that is very important when you read a book. About the love story, well... if you believe in love at very first sight it's OK.
