Editor's Notes and Comments:

Product Description:
Captain Patti O'Shay, a by-the-books cop, is assigned to the case. But with the evidence lost to time and the elements, the heinous incident goes unsolved. The perpetrator, known only as 'The Handyman,' remains at large.

Two years later Patti is still haunted by her own personal tragedy—her husband and fellow police captain was murdered in the post-storm chaos. But when a female victim missing her right hand is unearthed, Patti prepares to return to The Handyman investigation. She is unprepared, however, for what she finds at the crime scene—the victim's bones beside her husband's police badge.

Casting aside all the rules, Patti is fearless in her quest to find the truth…because if she isn't, she could become The Handyman's last known victim.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Liked it, in spite of the main characters
This was my very first Erica Spindler book, and I think I've found a new author! The suspense is good, the characters are believable, and she does a great job of keeping you guessing. There's more than one convincing blue herring (I did *not* guess the bad guy!), and you're not really sure if you can really trust Yvette until the very end. Patti wasn't the greatest leading character -- I found her to be a little wooden -- but the other characters, especially Stacy and Spencer, make up for it. One thing to note: even though this isn't technically part of a series, some of the characters have appeared in earlier Spindler novels, and there is reference to them. But I didn't feel like I was really missing anything by reading this one first.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Good Read
I always enjoy Erica Spindler's books, although this wasn't her in top form.

Having read the previous books with the Malone family, I was familiar with them -- but it's been awhile, and once the whole family got involved in the storyline, I started getting really confused about who was who. I can't imagine someone who was reading this as their very first book about the family was able to keep up with everyone. I also thought the murderer's identity was obvious, although their reasons why were a little convoluted.

The book also could've been about 100 pages shorter and still been good. It seemed a lot of pages were taken up with explanations of policies and procedures which could've been condensed and given us the same information.

Rated by buyers 1 out of 5 stars - Really dumb book
Where oh where to begin? First of all, the book is WAY too long at over 500 pages. It might have been interesting with 150 fewer pages. Like other reviewers I got confused at the family and all it's members. Lots and lots of unnecessary padding in this book. The book made it sound like everyone in New Orleans is related or at least know one another. Patti and Sammy? Two six-year-olds? Nope, police officers! Give me a break. Also, Patti had no business investigating her husbands murder. Yes, any good defense lawyer would have his client walking easily. I figured out fairly early who the killer was and had to slough through the rest of this mess to be sure. The ending was ludicrious. Thank goodness I got this book from the library. I wouldn't waste a penny on a book by this "author."

Rated by buyers 3 out of 5 stars - Not great
From the synopsis of this book it seemed that it would be about Patti O'Shay who is part of the Malone clan. However, the book was primarily about Yvette. I'm just not interested in reading a book about a 22 year old, self-involved, bad tempered stripper/hooker. She wasn't particularly likeable and I didn't care if she got killed or not.

While I appreciated the insight into post Katrina New Orleans, I hope the subsequent book is really about a member of the Malone family or at least someone with rooting value.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Kept My Attention
This is the very first book that I have read by Ms. Spindler. I found it very interesting. This is the only book in about a year that the suspense kept my interest and I read it all the way through without going to the end to see who done it and put the book on the shelf.
