Product Description:
Ten victims, each with pale skin and long dark hair. All have been slashed across the throat, the same blue lipstick smeared across their lips.
In the mid-1980s the Snow White Killer terrorized the streets of Nashville, Tennessee. Then suddenly the murders stopped. A letter from the killer to the police stated that his work was done.
Now four more bodies are found, marked with his fatal signature. The residents of Nashville fear a madman has returned, decades later, to finish his sick fairy tale. Homicide Lieutenant Taylour Jackson believes the killings are the work of a copycat killer who's even more terrifying. For this monster is meticulously honing his craft as he mimics famous serial murders…proving that the past is not to be forgotten.

If you have to be asleep at a certain time to get up for work, don't pick up "14" by JT Ellison, because you will NOT be going to sleep! In her second (can you believe only her second?!?!) novel, JT Ellison once again takes us to places we may not ever have wanted to go, but makes us want to go there so badly we will risk losing a job to get there! Lieutenant Taylour Jackson leads us intrepidly into the dark side of life in Nashville and New York in pursuit of a serial killer who just CAN'T be back again - or can he? At the same time, in a manner only Ellison could pull off, Taylour is wrestling with family issues and is trying (?) to get married! This blend of Taylor's professional and personal life makes her such a multi-dimensional character that the reader feels as if she is a personal friend. The drama and terror are so well written that this book is best started in the early morning hours, so that it can be finished well before dark. Only two books in, and Ellison has a true fan here. Watch for more from this terrific new author (this is not a paid advertisement, no matter how it sounds!)

In the 1980s in Nashville, the Snow White Killer murdered ten women who looked similar with their dark hair and the blue lipstick painted haphazardly all over their lips. The serial killer was never caught, but taunted the police with a note claiming mission accomplished. At the time of the murders, preadolescent Taylour Jackson was fascinated by them; she hoped, if the predator was not caught then, to one day have the opportunity to catch the psychopath when she became an adult police detective.
Two decades later, the case remains unsolved, but Taylour knows that was the impetus that turned her to law enforcement. The homicide lieutenant is stunned when the Snow White type murders begin again. She and her fiancé FBI profiler John Baldwin investigate planning to bring the killer, whether he is the original or a copycat, to justice.
The second Taylour Jackson police procedural (see ALL THE PRETTY GIRLS) is a gritty urban serial killing thriller with strong plausible twists. The story line is fast-paced and filled with action as Taylour got her tweener wish as she goes after the deadly effective and efficient psychopath. 14 is a tense and intense thriller throughout.

This is the second book I have read by this author and she gets better and better with every key stroke. If your looking for edge of your seat suspense, police procedures that bring you along for the ride, and a killer that makes you look at your neighbors sideways....this is the one for you. I highly recommend this book as well as All the Pretty Girls.

Nashville-based author J. T. Ellison (All the Pretty Girls, 2007) has written a chilling second novel that sends shivers down one's spine. The tense plot keeps one turning the pages.
Two decades ago, the Snow White Killer terrorized Music City with ten grisly murders of beautiful young women--each having raven-black hair, pale skin, and ruby-red lips--their throats slashed from ear to ear. The villain was never apprehended.
Fast forward to the present. Four more young women are murdered. The killer's modus operandi suggests the Snow White Killer has resurfaced. Or is a copycat responsible? As even more murders occur, the story resembles a Shakespearean tragedy in which bodies pile up like cordwood.
Homicide Detective Lieut. Taylour Jackson of the Metropolitan Nashville Police Dept. and her love interest, Dr. John Baldwin, a profiler for the FBI, seek to stop the sociopath before he strikes again.
Ellison describes her protagonist as inhabiting a black-and-white world and living by a strict moral code. However, Taylour engages in premarital sex and routinely spouts obscene words like a drunken sailor. Taylor's trashy mouth will offend some readers.
Ellison's third novel, The Judas Kiss, will be published in January 2009.
About the author: J.T. Ellison is a graduate of Randolph-Macon Woman's College (Lynchburg, Virginia) and received her Master's Degree from George Washington University (Washington, D.C.) She was a Presidential Appointee and worked in The White House and the Department of Commerce before moving into the private sector. As a financial analyst and marketing director, she worked for several defense and aerospace contractors. After moving to Nashville, Ellison began research on a passion, forensics and crime. She spent a great deal of time working with the Metro Nashville Police Department, and used these experiences to write her very first novel, All the Pretty Girls, which introduced Nashville Homicide Lieutenant Detective Taylour Jackson. Her third novel, Judas Kiss, will be available in March 2009. Ellison is a weekly columnist at Murderati.com and is a founding member of Killer Year, an organization that recognizes and celebrates the best of the year's debut novelists. J. She lives in Nashville with her husband and a poorly trained cat. For more information, visit her website, JTEllison.com.
Some errors detected in Ellison's novel:
Why is Tennessee called the "Volunteer State"? On page 18 of J. T. Ellison's novel, 14, the text reads:
"Tennessee had earned its nickname--The Volunteer State--for the multitudes of men who joined in the fight
during the Civil War." Ms. Ellison is incorrect.
"According to the official web site of the state of Tennessee, the nickname the Volunteer State comes from the record number of volunteers the state provided during both the War of 1812 and the Mexican War. 50states.com is a bit more specific, and says that the name honors the bravery of the soldiers from Tennessee who served under General Andrew Jackson in the Battle of New Orleans, a U.S. victory during the War of 1812."
On page 119, she has one of the characters entering The Tennessean at the main entrance on Broad Street/Broadway and states that someone "rushed down from the third floor" to meet him. Actually, as a longtime reviewer since 1974, very first at The Nashville Banner and now at The Tennessean, I know that the main entrance IS on the third floor, so it's not possible for someone to "come down" from the third floor to the main lobby.

This book is perfectly paced, full of suspense, and creepy as all get out--I liked it even better than ALL THE PRETTY GIRLS. Ellison proves once again that she not only knows how to keep the reader turning pages, but how to create characters that stay with you long after you've finished reading. Taylour Jackson rocks, plain and simple.
