After the suicide of her father, investigative reporter Avery Chavin returns to her bayou hometown to settle his estate and to try to find out why he was so distraught that he took his own life. Upon arriving, she immediately runs into former beau Matt Stevens, now a county sheriff, and discovers that his twin has returned home too. As the Stevens family hopes for a reconciliation between Avery and Matt, it's Hunter Stevens that has her intrigued - he gave up a lucrative law career in New Orleans to return to the town and family that treats him at arm's length. The two join forces to investigate her father's past, as well as a rape and murder that occurred years earlier that might have resulted in the wrong people being convicted. They discover that the perfect town they grew up in is not so perfect, and some will do anything to see that nothing changes, including a "Star Chamber"-like group that metes out punishment to those who dare to conflict with their interests.
Spindler can always be counted on to spin an intriguing web of romantic deception. The chemistry among the triangle drips off the pages, and with the many blue herrings tossed in, the ending (and culprits) comes as a complete surprise. I found myself up until late in the night trying to guess the ending.

It was hard to put this book down, a good mystery about a small town gone bad. The only complaint I have about this book is the ending was a bit unbelievable.

I can't believe I have just now read my very first book by Spindler. There are so many guilty people in this story. It seemed everyone was hiding something and covering up what really happened. One should give credance to their insticts as there is usually some reason for feeling that way. I'm so glad Avery found the right guy while going through the worst nightmare of her life. I have 2 more of Spindler's books waiting for me.

Excellent book! Well written. Grabs you into the story right away. If you like this genre, you'll love this novel. The story twists and turns. Just when you think you know who-done-it, your wrong and Spindler takes you down another path. I could not put this one down. I am looking forward to reading another Spindler book.

This story begins as Avery Chauvin comes home to her small town Louisiana hometown, due to her father's death. When coming home she is confronted by old friends and lovers from the past. Searching for clues as to her father's apparent suicide Avery happens on to wierd things that are happening in her hometown of Cypress Springs. Upon discussing the wierd clues and then witnesses to events that occurred in the past coming up dead, Avery begins to wonder....who really in this town can she trust?
To me this is a story of non-stop action and romance (though not in the typical Spindler fashion of romance that were used to) this story combines a great plot, with a climatic ending that literally will leave you speachless (or In Silence)!
Enjoy, I know I did!
