Editor's Notes and Comments:

Product Description:
Former government agent Frank Compton foiled a plot to enslave the galaxy in Night Train to Rigel. But the Modhri, an ancient telepathically linked intelligence, has walkers, unwilling hosts that can be anywhere, anything…and anyone. And Compton is the only man who knows how to fight them, as they wage a secret war against the galactic civilizations linked by the Quadrail, the only means of intra-galactic transit.

Accompanied by Bayta, a woman with strange ties to the robot-like Spiders who run the Quadrail, and dogged by special agent Morse who suspects him of murder, Compton races the Modhri from station to station to acquire a set of valuable sculptures from a long-dead civilization. What the Modhri wants with them is anybody’s guess, but if Compton can’t outwit it, the whole galaxy will find out the hard way.

Rated by buyers 3 out of 5 stars - Enjoyable SciFi Mystery, except for ridiculous ending
This book was a fun and easy read, and was better than I remember the very first book in the series (NIGHT TRAIN TO RIGEL) being.

This book is a "SciFi Mystery", and most of the happenstances are interesting, and at least somewhat believable. But things totally come undone in the last chapter - with a string of unbelievable and far out occurrences... it appears the author is setting the stage for a third book, but he actually does a good job of discouraging me to pursue this series any longer.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Zahn fan
I love the action and the intelligence of the characters. Former intelligence agents of different species continue in their ongoing war with the single purpose hive-mind Modhri and need to follow the clues as in a mystery to win the battle since the universe in general is unaware of this war. Compton is more emotionally involved in this sequel and I'm looking forward to seeing if Bayta opens up more as well in the subsequent story. Timothy Zahn wonderfully describes this universe with its many species linked by the Quadrail run by the Spiders. I believe this story stands well by itself but having read the very first in this series, find it a wonderful sequel.

Rated by buyers 3 out of 5 stars - Mystery, action or SF
Zahn continues the story line, but makes it independent so you can jump in without reading the very first Quadrail novel. He carries the mystery through the end and makes you want to go back and consider earlier actions in light of the ending. Excellent descriptive writing as usual, reasonable action, but uneven pacing and short on character development in my opinion.

Rated by buyers 3 out of 5 stars - Third Lynx
I might give it a 3.5 if that were available. Mass market is the right segment of its catalog that the publisher puts this in. It is a decent sci-fi detective/action story about a former intelligence agent (human) that now works for an inter-galactic transportation service providing race trying to eliminate or contain a coral-based entity bent on taking over the universe through its communal mind that can invade races able to walk about (unlike coral). Hence the controllees are called "walkers." The book will keep you entertained without taxing your brain. I love sci-fi and like most of the genre, unfortunately, character development is fairly thin in Third Lynx. Still, I liked it and I probably will buy the subsequent book in the series.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Great scifi cop story
The book was great. It helps to have read the very first book in the series, but it's not too hard to catch up. This is Zahn at his usual wonderful self. The story moves fast and is a great read while stuck on a plane. I will have to say that it doesn't quite make it up to his usual level of excellant writing and storyline, but the book did not disapoint at all. I was very pleased to have purchased it and was even more thrilled to find out that my copy had been signed by the author! Great buy at this bargain price. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did :)
