Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - GOOD... BETTER ...BEST
I have both books in this series. It's definitely a new take on the vampire genre.

The character has evolved more and I find the plot very entertaining in both books. Money well spent, when can I get the subsequent one?...Read it...you'll be sorry if you don't.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Exciting follow-up
This book is the follow-up to 'Touch of Evil' by the same authors and it continues the story of Kate Reilly, her werewolf boyfriend Tom and various other characters. The authors' take on the vampire/werewolf mythology is rather different than the norm with the Thrall being a hive mind with which Kate is linked following the events in the previous book.

'Touch of Madness' starts a month after the end of the previous book and Kate finds herself once again in the thick of a load of trouble. Some eggs have been stored and while Kate and the other Not Prey are in a meeting to discuss further studies the eggs escape. Kate and police detective Brooks do what they must to stop the infestation and find themselves being sued. At the same time Kate is approached by the vampires to find some other eggs that have been stolen, her relationship with Tom looks like it might have problems because he may be needed to sire more werewolves and Kate is sterile, plus her brother, who is in an almost-zombie state, is proving difficult to handle and may lose his place in the care facility; not to mention two evil and insane women are on the run and they both have it in for Kate.

There are several threads of plots all overlapping and that's what makes the book interesting. There are also several different 'baddies' who are after Kate or those whom she loves, as well as the confusion over good and bad with regard to the Thrall. Kate considers them evil parasites but she's beginning to discover this may not be entirely correct.

The relationship with Tom was well established in the very first book and in this book it continues and deepens. Her relationships with other people, such as her brothers Joe and Bryan, come under more scrutiny and we see a lot of heartache amongst them. Kate does come across rather like an early Anita Blake, always in the thick of things, internally conflicted about her actions but brave and almost suicidal at the same time. Fortunately the people around her take care of her and seem amazingly supportive - most of the time.

I initially found this book rather difficult to get into, mainly because I hadn't read the previous book in the series. However after the very first couple of chapters I found myself drawn into Kate's world and learning about the events that have made her the person she is. There was an awful lot of backstory from the very first book and it was doled out in small portions and that meant I didn't always understand everything but I found the book very enjoyable nevertheless and the non-stop action made it an exciting read. The fact that it was written by two people was never apparent as the writing style felt congruent and smooth without the odd jarring notes that twin authorship can sometimes bring. In conclusion, this is an excellent book and very exciting but it is probably worth reading 'Touch of Evil' very first so that there is less complicated plot to work out.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Very good book
The second in the series after Touch of Evil, Touch of Madness was very entertaining. This book went more into Katie and Tom's relationship. Tom is a shapeshifter and Katie is Not Prey. The Thrall, which are vampires and are run by a Queen (much like a bee hive) have recruited Katie to find their stolen young from a medical lab. This book, while still very good, didn't have the suspense and action the very first book had. But, it still kept my interest and I enjoyed reading this story.

Rated by buyers 3 out of 5 stars - okay
I didn't think this one was as good as the first. The very first in the series was nonstop action, this one lagged here and there. Kate was basically an emotional mess dealing with her brother who doesn't seem to like her, and the possibility of loosing her werewolf lover to the pack. All that woe is me whinny stuff does not lend anything to the action of the story, so I'm not sure why other reviewers said it was action packed from start to finish. I was not shocked or surprised by anything in the story, I found it quite predictable and who the killer was and why they were killing was easy to figure out. The plot all wrapped up nice and easy. I made it through 3/4 of the book and then scanned, then read the ending and yet I didn't feel as though I missed or wanted to go back and read anything.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - 2nd book first
I usually am very careful about reading my books in order but this one got away from me. Anyway it was highly entertaining and innovative. The characters are very real and I am so glad that Joe is now speaking with his sister. I have ordered the very first and also will look forward to the 3rd. I dont mind sex, etc in my books as long as there is attachment and this book is that way.
