Product Description:
Repairman Jack is back! An anonymous mercenary, with no last name and no social security number, Jack has thrilled a veritable army of readers ever since his bestselling debut in The Tomb. Jack can fix any problem, supernatural or otherwise, for a price. Now, in his latest gripping adventure, he takes on two cases at once.

The very first involves a nun being blackmailed by someone who has photos of her she doesn't want made public. What's in those photos, she won't say, but with her meager savings just about exhausted, she hires Jack to help her.

The second seems straightforward enough, as an elderly woman hires Jack to find her missing son. But to locate his quarry, Jack must infiltrate the inner reaches of the Dormentalist Church, a secretive, globe-spanning cult whose members include some of the biggest and most powerful names in entertainment, sports, and politics. Ruthless in its pursuit of critics and enemies, the Church hides a sinister agenda known only to its ruling elite.

But Jack can be ruthless, too, going to darker lengths than ever before as he crisscrosses the two fix-it jobs to settle the deadliest of scores!

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - CRISSCROSS (F. PAUL WILSON) REVIEW
I think this is the best Repairman Jack book. Loved it! Kept me riveted for hours and had an unbelievable ending. I just wish this one came in audio. Fantastic.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Jack goes to work
Repairman Jack doesn't officially exist. He has no social security number, no tax records, no legal identity of any kind. When people have a problem, he's available to fix it. For a price. In this eighth installment of the series, Jack gets two new clients in need of fixes. The very first is a nun who is getting blackmailed by someone Jack has dealt with once before. The second is a woman who wants Jack to find her son who has joined a cult known as Dormentalists. While elements of the story tie back to the ongoing struggle between the Ally and the Otherness, the foes Jack must deal with are strictly human with no supernatural abilities.

Despite running 500 pages long, the story moves along at a solid pace from start to finish. In many of the Repairman Jack novels, the fix-it work acts as a launching pad for the story and then things veer into utter craziness that Jack has to deal with. Crisscross is different in that the novel is about the same two fixes and their aftermath until the last page. This made for an especially enjoyable read as it puts Jack in the position to use sneaky tactics and brainpower to bring down some very bad people.

The supporting cast is not a particular strength in this installment, but that's okay because Jack carries most of the load. Sister Maggie, the blackmail victim, is a little too brittle and not very bright. Certain aspects of her character, like indulging in self-mutilation, almost make it seem like Wilson is trying to make some sort of anti-Catholic statement but I don't want to assume that as a given. Suffice it to say that she's neither likeable nor interesting. On the plus side, the blackmailer, Richie Cordova, is engaging and intriguing in a really slimy way. Another high point is reporter Jamie Grant who is working on an expose' of the Dormentalists. She's a bit of a burnout case but is a sympathetic character who develops a crush on Jack even if he doesn't know it. Best of all, Gia's appearances are mercifully brief so she only has a couple of opportunities to tell Jack to stop taking risks, etc.

Crisscross is one of the stronger Repairman Jack novels. Jack is shown at his best as he attacks the blackmailer and the cult and we learn of more key developments in the Ally/Otherness struggle. There's just enough humour to break up a fairly grim storyline and the few action scenes are excellent. This is an easy pick for established fans and not a bad entry point for first-time readers either. Other options for newcomers would be The Tomb (Adversary Cycle/Repairman Jack) which introduced Jack to the world and The Haunted Air : Repairman Jack (Repairman Jack) (Repairman Jack), which is possibly the best of the series so far.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - LOVE REPAIRMAN JACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am a huge fan of Repairman Jack!

Jack lives "off the grid" in New York City. He helps people with problems that cannot be solved by the police. He frequently runs across creatures that are evil and bent on destruction and manages to outwit or outfight them.

If you are new to Repairman Jack, read them in order starting with The Tomb. There is a good list on his website [...].

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Jack Attack!
This 8th installment in the Repairman Jack series is a strong one, with Jack tackling a Scientology-like church, a blackmailing PI, and incipent fatherhood. The humor, suspense, and supernatural aspects that permeate the other novels in the series are here in abundance. Jack has not mellowed with age, and does what he has to to get his work done. An excellent read, and one that will leave you wanting more, and wanting it right away.

Strongly recommended for thriller fans in general, and a must for anyone who's ever enjoyed any of the Repairman Jack novels.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Repairs can be messy

In CRISSSCROSS, Wilson's Repairman Jack runs into two very different cases, the very first involving blackmail, and the other a missing person's case. Sounds pretty pedestrian, until you factor in the nature of the blackmail case, the involvement of a cult very similar to another science fiction based organization with strong celebrity participation, and one more piece of the Adversary puzzle that Wilson has been developing since THE KEEP. Jack is an interesting character, brutal with a strong sense of justice, and in both cases things would have turned out much better if his plans were followed by all involved. But it is this human frailty that makes this book work so well. Jack, for all his planning and preternatural cunning, is still subject to the mistakes others make and when he has to improvise things can get very messy. This is my introduction to this character and to be able to pick up the threads of the series underlying themes without a study guide is a credit to Wilson's ability to incorporate elements from previous books seamlessly and while things do fall a bit predictably in place by the end, I definitely will be looking for the other books in the series.
