Product Description:
The masterpiece that started The New York Times bestselling epic Sword of Truth

In the aftermath of the brutal murder of his father, a mysterious woman, Kahlan Amnell, appears in Richard Cypher's forest sanctuary seeking help . . . and more. His world, his very beliefs, are shattered when ancient debts come due with thundering violence.

In a dark age it takes courage to live, and more than mere courage to challenge those who hold dominion, Richard and Kahlan must take up that challenge or become the subsequent victims. Beyond awaits a bewitching land where even the best of their hearts could betray them. Yet, Richard fears nothing so much as what secrets his sword might reveal about his own soul. Falling in love would destroy them--for reasons Richard can't imagine and Kahlan dare not say.
In their darkest hour, hunted relentlessly, tormented by treachery and loss, Kahlan calls upon Richard to reach beyond his sword--to invoke within himself something more noble. Neither knows that the rules of battle have just changed . . . or that their time has run out.
This is the beginning. One book. One Rule. Witness the birth of a legend.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Really enjoyable. I love his idea of magic.
People, you are being way too hard on Goodkind. I, personally, enjoyed this book thoroughly. So what if he copies other authors, especially Tolkien? What author doesn't copy Tolkien in the fantasy genre? He made the fantasy genre what it is today. If so many copy him, doesn't that just show his genius?
Anyway, Goodkind did some great things in his book. I do agree, it was an exceptionally long book, yet I enjoyed almost every page of it. He understands people's emotions, he understands relationships and he masterfully pulled at the readers emotions with Kahlan and Richard. However, as I say this, I do not mean to say that I codone the... descriptive.... sexuality in the book. On the contrary I was shocked and I lost some respct for Terry upon reading these situations (especially chapter 47). What I mean is that he really gets people and how they would feel and act in their varying situations.
This is getting kind of long, like WFR, so I would also like to say that I really liked his idea on magic. It leaves so many possibilities for anything to be capable of happening. Also it is really complex and just simply well thought out and wonderful. I love this kind of magic......
Anyway, this was a really good book, it had it's fair share of problems but in the end I really enjoyed it.
Remember it's just a book.

Rated by buyers 1 out of 5 stars - This is why fantasy books have a poor reputation.
This is a low class voyage to a silly and pedantic world. Believe the comments by other reviewers who have called this work misogynistic, poorly written, poorly conceived, and needlessly perverse. Im tempted to write more, but feel that it has already eaten too much of my life.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Great book
One of the best books I've read. Much better then the tv series. Can't wait for the rest of the series to come to the kindle.

Rated by buyers 1 out of 5 stars - WFR Book1
Even still they want me to write a review of a book that I was never sent. Instead I was sent a later edition. The picture of the book I was to have received was not the same book I got. I was looking for a very first edition very first printing and was given a later edition. Please make sure you are getting the book you want . Now I did get refunded with no problems but I would have rather spent my time getting the correct book.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Great epic fantasy
The sword of truth series is a great epic fantasy series. One book of the series blows because it does not stay with the main characters, but overall the series is one of my favorites.
