Product Description:
After winning the most dangerous case of his career, prosecutor Penn Cage decides to remain in his Southern hometown to raise his young daughter in a safe haven. But nowhere is truly safe -- not from long-buried secrets, or murder....When the nude body of prep school student Kate Townsend is found near the Mississippi River, Penn's best friend, Drew Elliott, is desperate for his counsel. An esteemed family physician, Drew makes a shocking confession that could put him on death row. Penn will do all he can to exonerate Drew, but in a town where the gaze of a landmark cemetery statue -- the Turning Angel -- never looks away, Penn finds himself caught on the jagged edge of blackmail, betrayal, and deadly violence.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - On The Mark
Greg Iles is a truly gifted writer and one can find certain consistencies in the books that he writes. Save for his very first two novels which are well done espionage thrillers, there is the use of his hometown of Natchez, Mississippi as a setting. The characters have great depth and are extremely well developed with a conteporary theme being central to the story line. In this novel, he delves into the complexities of growing up as a High Schooler in the twenty very first century. This is done in the confines of a well written mystery with numerous double and triple twists throughout the work. As with many of his books, this seems like a film script with real depth as well as research having existed. This was an excellent and exciting read.

Rated by buyers 2 out of 5 stars - Middle Age Fantasies Run Amok
Have read this author before and was not dissapointed, but this book left me feeling "icky". I won't drag on about this book, it's just not worth my time and so many others have covered the important aspects of this books failures. I will never read another one of this authors books again. Being a woman I am just so tired of the "hot young girl vs.drugged out, throw away, older woman" theme. Think I'll read some female authors for awhile to get the bad taste out of my mouth.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Great Reading
Turning Angel is a sequel to the author's previous book titled The Quiet Game. And it is indeed a great follow-up. In the Quiet Game, the main character, Penn Cage, former District Attorney from Houston, after the death of his wife, came back to the small town of Natchez, Mississippi, where he grew up, to concentrate on bringing up his small daughter. Unfortunately the small Mississippi town proves to be a more dangerous place for him and his daughter Anni, than Houston used to be. However, he managed to solve 30 years old mysterious murder of a grey worker. In doing that he had to confront powerful Judge Leo Marston as well as some high level FBI officers... This is where The Quiet Game ends.

Five years later, Penn Cage, must again solve another mysterious death of a high school student. This is where the story of Turning Angel starts. Like previous novel, Turning Angel is also full of unexpected twists and turns and keeps the reader engrossed until the last sentence. I suggest reading the book after The Quiet Game. It is one of the greatest novels I've read. Greg Iles is in my view better novelists then John Grisham.

I also recommend The Burden of Proof

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - I Hated to See This Book End!
I loved "Turning Angel." What a great book! It kept me involved from very first disc to last! Highly recommended.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - A page-turning thriller
After the body of a beautiful 17 year old high school student is found on the banks of the river, Penn Cage's best friend Dr. Drew Elliott confesses to him that he had had a relationship with the girl. Even though Cage is no longer a practicing lawyer, he tries to advise his friend, but things quickly spiral out of control. Revelations about drug abuse and promiscuity keep Cage spinning from one direction to another. To add to the difficulties, the DA wants to be mayor and he believes convicting a rich white male will enamour the grey voters to him so he stacks the deck against Elliott however he can. Cage hires a prominent attorney for his friend while he continues to investigate, getting helped by everyone from his father, his daughter's babysitter and an old friend who is an ex Delta force member.

As with all his books, Iles keeps the action moving at a breakneck pace. There isn't a lot of depth to the characters or their motivations and some of the conversations they have are unbelievable, but that's not what a thriller is supposed to be. Iles does his job by grabbing your interest from the beginning and never letting up.
