Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Diablo 2, The Black Road is a fun read
I didn't expect much from this book, after all it's written about the backstory of a computer game. I did expect familiar territory, but what I wasn't expecting was that the game's immersive backstory would be picked up and handled so well. There was much less monster-whacking and much more interesting inner conflicts than I expected. The particular demon of the book is a nasty one, and it had some deep things to show about the way human beings respond to what they want to hear.

The main character has abuse issues with his father and unlike many novels that deal with abuse issues, that wasn't resolved with a pat answer. He grew certainly, but the book didn't end with everyone happily all right. Yet the ending was interesting in its way.

I'm enjoying the series and will probably get more of these, but it wouldn't surprise me if "The Black Road" turned out to be one of its lasting high points. If I'd never played the game, I would've really enjoyed this novel.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - An entertaining adventure of temptation and redemption
The Black Road is an entertaining tale set in the Diablo universe. While it doesn't directly relate to any of the events or characters in either of the two Diablo games, the book itself is full of memorable charcters, subversive demons, and action-packed battles.
The main character, Darrick Lang, is one that is interesting to follow. He has his life in control, is a leader among his peers, and is on a rescue mission to save the king's nephew from a group of pirates. During this rescue, a demon is brought back into the world and after Darrick's encouter with the demon, his life is changed forever. As a result we see him change from a confident leader to a drunken sot until he is forced to choose between redeeming himself and facing the demon or wallowing in the past in his own misery. His dilemma feels genuine and watching him fall from grace and then tread the path of salvation leads to an exciting final confrontation that will keep you hooked until the end.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of fantasy novels and the struggles between good and evil. If you're looking for a rehash of the Diablo games you'll be disappointed, but if you want a tale of men fighting demons that definitely feels right in the Diablo universe, you'll be in for a treat.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - A Decent Story
Diablo: The Legacy of Blood (Book 2 in the Series)
By: Mel Odom

Another good book in the Diablo series that is based on the popular video game. This is a totally different story, with totally different characters, and yes totally different locations. In this book, an evil priest tracks down the doorway to unleashing a powerful demon into the world of man. But at the same time an unwitting sailour is on his way to the island to rescue a member of the royal family and gets tangled up in the whole matter as he witnesses the coming of the evil demon. Now, after tragedy and hardship, he must bring his life together, to try and destroy the demon that took his best friend and rid the world of its evil influence.

I liked this story, there were some pretty good action scenes, the only thing that I don't like is the ease where time just totally skips in several months and even in years. But it is still a great story, much like the very first book, this has more fight scenes to it than the first, they have lengthy gaps between them, that's the only bad thing other then a few spelling errors throughout the book, gotta give it an 9.1/10.

Rated by buyers 3 out of 5 stars - Twas nothing special
I've read most of the Diablo novels. By most I mean the only one that I didn't finish was this one. For reason I could not, for the life of me, get into it. Got to chapter 6 and couldn't go on. The writing style of Odom just simply didn't captivate me as Knaak did with novel's 1,3, and Moon of the Spider.

The book may have picked up from chapter 6 on, however; I didn't feel like finding out. A good book should grab you by the end of the very first chapter. A great book should grab you by the end of the very first page. This novel did neither. Though the 5 chapters I read were well written, just not captivating. IMHO.

Myself being a hardcore Diablo fan, it pains me to say that the only people I would recommend this to is truly hardcore fans yearning for more tales of Sanctuary.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - No Armour is the Best
Strotyabout a soldier named Norrec who finds ancient armour and gets possed by it. overall good book awith many twist and turns the downside is too many tow people long talks between them . But still a good read to check out.
