Product Description:
Richard Marcinko's explosive #1 New York Times bestselling autobiography, Rogue Warrior, and four blockbuster Rogue Warrior novels have earned him fame for his raucous, no-holds-barred style. Now, blasting other business guides out of the water, Marcinko draws on his remarkable experience as a Navy commando and creator of the legendary SEAL TEAM SIX to apply his Ten Commandments of Special Warfare to the challenges of business and everyday life. A sampling:
- I will always lead you from the front, not the rear.
- I shall punish thy bodies because the more thou sweetest in training, the less thou bleedest in combat.
- Verily, thou art not paid for thy methods, but for thy results, by which meaneth thou shalt kill shine enemy by any means available before he killeth you.
Using his own war stories, plus case studies of Fortune 500 companies and smaller businesses, Marcinko now clarifies the simple--but profound--leadership principles that have made him an extraordinary success, both in and out of the military.

What a JOKE!..."Lead from the Trenches" There I just saved you the time you would have wasted if you had read the entire book. It's not a bad point, but that's all you get for your effort. If you are one of those business men that likes to pretend he's a samurai then maybe you'd like this gaseous rag. But if you want to run a successful business, look elsewhere for help.Read W.E.B. Griffith's books instead. The business advice is just as non-existant as in this book but the war stories are much better

Dick Marcinko is the quintessential "Rogue Warrior." His take on "leadership" has been tempered in the crucible of war and covert operations. His "ten commandments" of leadership are interesting, insightful and about as finessed as a claymore mine... but there are some truisms that can be applied in today's business environment. One being..."Lead from the Front..." Leadership by walking around and showing and doing the jobs you would want others to do, gives the leader great credibility to the team. Managing from your office, via email, memo, intercom (seriously...the horror stories I could tell!) does not a leader make!
I would be careful in the application of "win at all costs!" But at the same time, recognition that aggressive leadership is a great tool when applied sparingly and with a visible purpose.
Those that are leaders and have come from a military background will find themselves nodding in agreement with a number of Mr. Marcinko's points, but will cringe, as well, if they are in a leadership position in today's "PC" type of organization. (which is about 99.9% of all litigious wary companies)
Read and enjoy... take his points with a "pillar" of salt, but with an open mind. Leaders "Learn" and use all the tools they can find... bind them together and make them their own... then adjust, tweak, throw away and reassess.
here is a great quote for leaders to keep in mind... "Learning is not compulsory... neither is survival."
W. Edwards Deming (1900 - 1993)

I received the book tonight and finished it before I realized I had been through the last chapter. The style is direct and quite pleasant if your personality fits the guy. I am a simple minded, down to earth person and I liked the non-sense talk during the book. The author defines a simple, yet pretty smart framework, that makes the decision process quite straight forward. I don't know if corporate America really looks like the authors depicts it, but it seems definitely accurate in most respect. All in all I liked the book and I think I will keep most of the advices in the back of my head for a little while.

The friend who lent this to me was surprised when I showed him the Acknowledgments page listing a handful of inspirational business books. However secondhand the business anecdotes might be, the sheer energy of Leadership Secrets is inspirational. But as other reviewers have pointed out, contrary to Mr. Marcinko, Business is not War. Please don't visit his battle-inspired insights on your staff.
