Product Description:
The scrumptious—and deadly— hardcover debut of the national bestselling Chocoholic Mysteries.

Lee McKinney Woodyard knows that being in the luxury chocolate business isn’t all sweetness and light, and neither is the holiday season. But she tries to draw the line at cold-blooded murder.

As treasurer of WinterFest, Lee is up to her elbows in the arguments, egos, and last-minute mix-ups that happen behind the scenes. But she’s coping, even when the guest juror of the art show shows up drunk. Lee leaves him to sleep it off, and is stunned the subsequent day when her husband, Joe, discovers someone has put the visiting dignitary into a permanent state of repose...

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Death of a True Jerk
With the Winter Arts Festival just days away, Lee Woodyard and her husband Joe are busy helping the rest of the committee put the finishing touches on events. One thing Lee takes on is picking up Fletcher Mendenhall, the juror who is coming in to judge the art show. When she arrives at the airport, she finds him drunk. But the worst part is that he makes repeated passes at Lee and won't take no for an answer. Fed up, Lee drops him off at a hotel.

But that isn't the end of things. The subsequent morning, Mendenhall is found murdered in his room. Since Lee was the last person to see him, she becomes the only suspect. That would be bad enough if key evidence didn't keep showing up in her possession. Can Lee find out who really committed the murder before she is arrested?

I love books where the murder victim truly deserves to die, and that was the case here. That helped pull me in to the book from the beginning. Things get off to a fairly quick start, and they keep moving from there. The ending was a complete surprise. And we got to see many of the series regulars, who were in top form. Lee's "tongue tangles" were kept to a minimum. The new characters were interesting.

I was hesitant about leaping with the series to hardcover, but I'm glad I did. This entry in the series will satisfy its many fans.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Delectable Chocoholic Mystery
Lee McKinney Woodyard is doing her civic duty by acting as treasurer for the Warner Pier Winter Arts Festival. When other committee members are unable to make the trip to the nearest airport, she goes above and beyond by volunteering to pick up one of the judges for the art competition. Lee encounters an uncomfortable situation with the judge, and later he is found dead. Suddenly she becomes the #1 suspect.

JoAnna Carl's mysteries center around the small town of Warner Pier, which is on the east coast of Lake Michigan. She works at her aunt's chocolate shop where all the candy is home-made and very special. The books always contain interesting trivia about chocolate, and the characters become more well-developed and likeable with each entry in the series. This is a good series for those who love "cozy" mysteries and chocolate.

Rated by buyers 1 out of 5 stars - Sick of Carl's "Hook"!
I was introduced to Eve Sandstrom (a.k.a. Joanna carl) when I read with disappointment her "Down Home" series in the 1990s. Those books were depressing. The "chocolate" books are just plain annoying. I've stopped reading these potentially cozy little mysteries. The verbal glitches almost constantly made by her main character, Lee McKinney, have become such a distraction that I don't even want to take the time to endeavor to get through the plot! An unnecessary annoyance that ruins a nice little story and a nice mystery series.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Back in Business
I thought this book was much better than the last one. The writing is sharper in general and the mystery was more complex. I really enjoy this series and my minor criticisms with the last book were (spelling things out for the reader that were obvious and the over-use of Lee's tongue-tangling)were minimal to non-existent in this book. The setting of Warner Pier is fantastic and I was thrilled with the holiday atmosphere. I thought that this book was more sophisticated overall since we get some interesting background on Lee's character and a better, more realistic view of Lee and Joe's relationship. Well done!

Rated by buyers 3 out of 5 stars - Disappointed
I have read all the books in the series and this one is not as good. I think she is losing steam and wearing out the series. It is just so so.
