Editor's Notes and Comments:

Product Description:
Before her body was found floating in her Jacuzzi, publicist-to- the-stars Lindsey Alexander had few friends, but plenty of lovers. To her ex- friend-forensic handwriting expert Claudia Rose-she was a ruthless, back- stabbing manipulator. But even Claudia is shocked by Lindsey's startling final note: 'It was fun while it lasted!'

It would be easier on the police-and Claudia-to write it off as suicide. But Claudia's instincts push her to investigate further, and she quickly finds herself entangled in a far darker scenario than she bargained for. Racing to identify a killer, Claudia soon has a price on her head-and unless she can read the handwriting on the wall, she will become the subsequent victim.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - five fun stars
Sheila Lowe does know what she is talking about when she talks about graphology and man o' live she can write a real fun and riveting book too. I was interested in the characters from the get-go, no need to have endless pages of character building when they are ready to go from page one. I like books that leave me wondering about the character later and this book certainly left me wanting more. So I was quite happy to find her subsequent book and now I understand she will have a third soon. Yippee, I downloaded this on my kindle (which I love) and just bought the subsequent book and can hardly wait for the third. Kindle gives you a great price on recently released books..check it out

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Instant Hit
Poison Pen, Sheila Lowe's debut novel is an instant hit. Claudia Rose, a moderately successful Handwriting Analyst; is an intelligent, attractive woman who is instantly thrown into a police investigation when an old friend is found dead under somewhat questionable circumstances. It is her job to determine if the suicide note is the real deal. As the plot thickens, continuing at break-neck speed, guilty parties seem to jump off the pages. Claudia Rose instantly becomes the character that you want to see succeed.

Rated by buyers 1 out of 5 stars - Why the tired (and inaccurate) stereotype?
I liked the reviews I read of this book, and went and got a copy. Unfortunately, I was turned off the book by the very very first page; I should have read it in the store. Why, why another cliched grey woman with braids and beads? BEADS? Every other book these days seems to include a secondary grey character of some sort sporting this hairstyle and an attitude. Please tell me where these 80's-hairstyle-wearing women are hiding out besides in the pages of these books. I'm a grey woman, and I live in New York City, so I think I should know a little about this. Is there no editorial review or criticism that addresses the realism of characters?

As well, a Caribbean woman is not going to say "girlfrien'". Choose your cultural slang more carefully, please. Ghetto urban, or Caribbean, and for goodness sake, they are not all from Haiti , with the 'dis', 'dat', accent and speaking of voodoo (who knows if that comes up in the book, but chances are...). This is not literature; this is TV education-lite in written format.

I couldn't finish the book because of my disappointment with the beginning, so I can't really qualify this as a review. I do feel this is pertinent commentary, though.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Poison Pen Great Start to Series!
Are you a "forensic" fan like I am? Well, then you definitely will enjoy the debut of Sheila Lowe's new forensic handwriting mystery series, starting with Poison Pen.

Through a bit of serendipity, I had the opportunity to read both Poison Pen and the follow-up book, Written in Blood this past weekend--what an enjoyable opportunity!

Claudia Rose, our forensic expert, was pulled into action when her former college friend was found dead in her hot tub, seemingly as a suicide. Only her alleged note,

IT WAS FUN WHILE IT LASTED

did not match the personality of Lindsey Alexander. Indeed, most people who knew her would not be surprised if she were murdered--their surprise was that she had supposedly committed suicide!

There was only one man who seemed to mourn Lindsey's death--Ivan, her business associate, friend and executor of her will. From the personal side, Ivan was sure that Lindsey had not committed suicide; from a business side, the insurance company refused to pay on a suicide. There was no choice; Ivan had to convince Claudia that she must help him prove whether the suicide note was authentic.

Claudia, as well Kelly, her best friend, had been "burned" once too often by Lindsey and couldn't even pretend to know why they had attended her funeral. But with Ivan's pleas, Claudia forced her memories back to college days when she and Lindsey were still friends and agreed. The one thing she required, however, was hard to find--she needed samples of Lindsey's handwriting in block printing, as the suicide note had been created.

Ivan pointed out that this was a very important reason to assume that the note had been faked--Lindsey always wrote in cursive; in fact, trying to find similar documents forced further and further involvement as Claudia worked with Ivan to find needed evidence. That is, until Ivan was murdered!

And when Kelly admitted that she was afraid she "might" have killed Lindsey, while she has also discovered that another good friend, Zeb, had written Lindsey a threatening letter, Claudia is pulled in well beyond her original task of authenticating writing. On the other hand, working with Detective Joel Jovanic and finding a mutual attraction developing between them, placed her in a difficult spot where loyalty to her two friends forced her to make difficult choices. Especially when Claudia finds she could very well be the subsequent victim!

This is a whodunit that will wrap you tight--into trying to solve the mystery along with Claudia. Even though I was narrowing down my own suspects, I wasn't quite sure what had happened until the very end--after all, among many others, there was the senator who had been blackmailed by Lindsey, or her brother who had once been Lindsey's partner in her schemes!

Poison Pen is a page-turner that will keep you reading! Enjoy!

And, now...I'm on to reading Written in Blood!

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Amateur sleuth proves the pen is mightier than the sword
I love mysteries of all sub-genres but this one is tough to categorize. It is definitely not a cozy, hardboiled, caper, or chick-lit mystery. It does feel a lot like a thriller-mystery, with a side of romance, gritty language, some violence, and a plot that will keep you turning pages well into the night. The handwriting aspect is interesting even for someone who knows nothing of the subject; it's a fresh angle that protagonist Claudia Rose uses in her sleuthing, while her detective friend, Jake, employs more traditional methods.

After reading Poison Pen, like me you'll be eager to read Written in Blood.
