I love a plot that doesn't take you where you want the story to go. Surprises are inspiring! No one falls in love; no sex (except a 30 year ago affair w/o details) You don't know the good guy from the bad guy; who is after what? Kept me on the edge until the end. I loved Ken Follett's POTE and the sequel,W w/o E. I enjoyed the plot of Sanctuary reflecting to the past, as much as I enjoyed the historical fiction of Follett. I would like to read more historical fiction as I enjoy reading the lifestyles which take me back to 1979 when I backpacked GB and Europe and saw how people were actually living in the 50's of the U.S.

This is the second audio book we have listened to by this author. The Last Templar by Khoury was so good we were eager to hear this one. Five stars, thumbs up,terrific, a great book.

I have not read Khoury's 1st book, so I have no basis for comparison, but I can say that this book is an excellent read. The plot is well developed going back and forward with the historical part. The characters are rounded and very down-to-earth. And the there are many twists and surprises, while some are obvious others are still very surprising and taunting. The book has a great rhythm and never lets up. Once you get through the very first quarter, it is hard to put down and was finished in 2 days.
I would most definitely recommend it and will soon be reading his first.

I enjoyed reading this book. Characters had good development and the plot line was interesting. I had only two complaints. The ending was rather anti-climactic. No surprises and the revelation of the secret elixir was not as impressive as I was hoping for. My other complaint was that Khoury (I've read two of his books so far) has a tendency to take sidetrips from the storyline to give several pages of "historical information". While interesting to some, I found it distracting and find that I tend to skip over these sections. All that being said, I DID enjoy the book and found it a great read.

This fantastical thriller is a riveting thriller with some interesting curves thrown in for the very first 80 percent of the novel. The last 20 percent, however, is a disappointment. Much of it seems like filler, and the ends that need to be tied up are done so in a hurried and a little too pat manner. It seems strange that he seemed to waste so many pages on unnecessary scenes and then hurried at the very end. Still, it is a cut above much of the other thriller genre.
