In New Chapel, Indiana, flower shop owner Abby Knight worries about her business failing. She needs new customers and knows that flowers and funerals go together like bacon and eggs. Thus she decides to open up a 'tasteful' floral booth at the Funeral Director Society's annual convention.
On the down side, Abby will deal with some creepy souls who appreciate the DEARLY DEPOTTED as no one else can dig them. For instance, the Colonel who is president of the FDS is the self-anointed Master Mortician who insists he knows everything there is in converting a corpse into a living tribute and is willing to tell anyone who is not afraid to ask him for a consultation. Then there is the environmental ground-hugger Eli 'Green Guy' Cotton who believes Kermit is right that grieving relatives should send their loved ones off in green.
The lively gala turns morbid when cosmetician to the dead Sybil 'the Diva of Death Masks' Blount is killed. Unable to resist, Abby investigates who was drumming up business.

Abby finds herself investigating the murder of Sybil, the event planner, during a funeral director's convention. The book opens with Abby trapped inside a casket in the shape of a phone booth. There are twins, also in attendance, who enjoy getting on everyone's nerves by playing practical jokes. Unfortunately they picked the wrong person to lock inside the casket. After Abby realizes they were the culprits, she immediately places them on her suspect list. The only problem is, this prevents her from seeing the big picture and missing the clues that are right in front of her.
A Rose from the Dead fell flat for me. The story takes place in the span of two days, during the convention. The supporting characters make minor appearances in this novel, while the plot centers around Abby and Marco trying to solve the mystery. While this is my least favorite in the series so far, I am still looking forward to reading books 7 and 8.

I enjoyed this book as I did the others. Abby is a fun, quirky heroine. Marco is not my type, but he's just what she wants. I have two problems with this book. First of all, she is DETERMINED to prove that one or both of the Urban twins is guilty without any evidence except that they trapped her in a coffin. Secondly, a very obvious clue is staring her in the face and she doesn't get it. Her quick thinking to get into Sybil's room notwithstanding, I just don't think she was as much on top of her form as usual. I saw the ending coming. She should have, too.

Abby Knight, owner of Bloomers flower shop, has agreed to attend the Midwestern Funeral Directors Convention to try to drum up more business. She shares a booth with her friends Delilah and Max Dove. Considering there is a casket race and a coffin decoration contest, Abby soon finds out it isn't as dull as she expected.
Delilah becomes the prime suspect in Sybil Blount's murder because Delilah had arrived to the banquet late because she was repairing their decorated coffin for the contest and Sybil was found murdered in a decorated coffin. Plus earlier Delilah had had a run-in with Sybil over the size of their booth.
Sybil was the organizer of the convention. Abby believes the urbane twins Ross & Jess may be responsible for Sybil's death due to some of the pranks they'd pulled on Abby. Could Sybil have been blackmailing someone? How did she get Chet Sunday, the handsome cable TV star, to appear at the convention?
Abby and her boyfriend Marco, an ex-cop and owner of Down the Hatch Bar and Grill, set out to clear Delilah and find the real killer.
What a great setting for a mystery! I enjoyed the various suspects, of which there were many. Abby and Marco are fabulous together. I like it when they work together, as much as Abby will work with anyone.
This series is a fabulous cozy mystery series, and I highly recommend it and this book!

This is one of my favorite new series. Love the characters. Funny and gritty. My 15 year old daughter and I both love this series and can't wait for the subsequent one. Read them all.
