I've read every single book in this series and have enjoyed all of them for the most part. However, I have to agree with the reviewer who was disgusted with the main character's weight issues. It has been an element in every story, but this book took it a little too far. I don't have a problem with the fact that she's overweight, but I am offended by the author's complete mockery of good nutrition here (For example: our heroine sneaks a bunch of junk food into the spa late at night, assumes that her overweight student's bad mood is being caused by low blood sugar, then proceeds to give her a bag of potato chips to devour.) And you'll only find three different diet scenarios for the women in these stories: 1) Women who starve themselves to be "waifs" 2) A "lucky" few women who can eat whatever they want (and it usually ends up being garbage like candy bars) and never gain weight 3) Women who have decided not to "starve" themselves and are "cursed" with being overweight because of it. I don't suppose it would be possible to have a character who eats nutritious food, exercises regularly, and has a normal BMI?
It might strike you as odd that I would be focusing so much on weight in a review about a mystery book. Quite frankly, it strikes me as odd, too!!! I only bring it up because the author focuses so much on it!!! The comments and implications in this book became too derogatory to ignore and really nailed the lid on the coffin for this series as far as I'm concerned. There are plenty of cozy mystery series out there - it's time to start shopping for another one.

Fortunately, I have been to a spa because if I hadn't, and then read this book, I might have been too scared to try one!
Once again, Skye comes through and finds the culprits even with her mother and her ex-boyfriend's mother with her at the spa.
I just love Skye. I don't think of her as a size 12 but more like a size 14. After all, she sneaks out of the spa to replenish her food stash! I like that.
I'll read everything Denise Swanson writes because I know I'll be in for a treat. Read one Scumble River mystery and I promise you'll be hooked.
Thanks, Ms. Swanson! I appreciate you. --Karen Dyer, Dublin, CA

this was really good and you are left with wondering what is going on in the heroines life, very good mystery. the "redraggers" are always amusing.

I found the story delightful. It is one of the "cozy" murder mysteries, and those are the type I enjoy. I thought the plot was well thought out and I was surprised by the ending. As my very first Scumble River Mysteries, I am happy to say I'd read another.
