Editor's Notes and Comments:

Product Description:
Lacey can't wait to see France for the very first time with friend Magda Rousseau, corset creator for D.C.'s wealthiest and kinkiest. Lacey's job there is to report on haute couture, but the real reason for the trip is the supposed Rousseau lost treasure: a corset lined with jewels. But just before the big trip, someone poisons Magda. Could it have something to do with the priceless corset? To find out, Lacey must follow a dangerous thread that will lead her to the answers-and perhaps the missing jewels.

This is the fourth book in the Crimes of Fashion series and, I think, the best so far. Fashion reporter Lacey Smithsonian travels to France and New Orleans in search of a corset in which was hidden jewels from the Russian revolution, after a dying corset-maker makes her promise to find it.

The treasure hunt caper variously involves her friends the madcap stylist Stella, lawyer Brooke and Brooke's boyfriend of DeadFed.com--conspiracy nuts, as well as an international "jewel retriever" and an ex-KGB agent as they follow a series of clues. There are also developments in Lacey's love life with her on-again, off-again beau Vic.

Raiders of the Lost Corset is a fast-moving and fun story full of the romance of adventure.

Rated by buyers 1 out of 5 stars - Who wrote this Mess?
The only thing I can be sure of is that Ellen Byerrum did NOT write this book. Ellen Byerrum write well. She's funny. This is confusing and terrible written from the start.

The narrative is boring, dull, difficult to understand and had the lightness of a wet camel. Did I mention the writing is terrible? I really believe this is one she wrote before she sold and thought she could stick this in and no one would notice what a horrible book it is. If you're going to stick in an old book, it SHOULD be completely rewritten without pages of impossible narrative and confusing floks wondering about. If I could, I'd have given this terrif mishmash of a novel a ZERO. OR, perhaps, her untalented and jealous cousin wrote this awful book under her name just to embarrass her.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Lacey Rules
For those of you who have not read the Crimes of Fashion mysteries, here's your chance to see why they are a recommended read. Lacey is every girls heroine. She is smart, funny, sassy, classy and obsessed with vintage fashion. Everything us girls love to read about. Ellen Byerrum has created a fun circle of friends and entertaining mysteries that we would all love to be able to solve. I recommend these books to all my gal pals who need some summer reading. Enjoy!

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Smithsonian Strikes (A Home Run) Again!
I always enjoy this heroine and her funny, fast-paced adventures, and the fourth book in this series is no exception. (It's understandable that the author has a playwriting background; her original characters, witty dialogue, and clever plot suprises make the readers feel as if they were watching a theatrical event unfold just for their benefit.) Lovers of history will appreciate the Romanoff connection, lovers of travel will savor the Parisian and pre-Katrina New Orleans details, and lovers of mysteries will turn the pages so quickly they break speed-reading records. Ellen Byerrum has once again charmed me into waiting impatiently for Lacey's subsequent adventure!

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Fashion and Mystery
This series has been very enjoyable. I like the main character although sometimes Lacey acts too arrogant and silly for a mature career woman. Independence is nice, but when you need help, it's best to admit it and get over the "I have to do this all by myself syndrome." The supporting characters, especially Stella and Brooke are a nice mix. Sometimes the mystery takes a back seat to fashion, and the author has a problem with her narrative voice now and then, but these are minor quibbles. I love the trunk idea, and Lacy going into it when she's down and depressed is a fun way to get the history of her lovely clothes and find out more about her family. I'm not too fond of her boyfriend, Vic, he doesn't ring true to me, so let's dump the guy and start over with someone more "real". All in all this has been an enjoyable and pleasant series and I hope the author will continue to develop the character of Lacey.
