PJ Tracy is the pseudonym of the combination of a mother-daughter writing duo P.J. and Traci Lambrecht. It is certainly unusual if not unique. Their very first three novels, Monkeewrench, Live Bait and Dead Run,, have become national and international bestsellers.
This writing duo have certainly made a name for themselves in a short space of time and their writing style makes for easy reading, which when you think about it is a feat in itself, as the storyline is coming from two brains rather than one. They must collaborate very closely.
There books, this one included, contain quite complex plots that need to be unravelled by good honest detective work, rather than an all guns blazing approach. This one revolves around the fact the someone out there in Minneapolis is getting a kick out of bumping off elderly people. The story begins with two old men being killed in the same night. One is tied to railway tracks and left to die. The other shot in the head.
While the police are getting a case together and a profile on the unfortunate victims, two more from the same neighbourhood are found dead. The police need to get their act together on this and quickly. But will they be able to reach a conclusion and make an arrest before any more deaths happen . . . ?

WARNING: If you plan on reading other books in the series, do not make the same mistake I did -- read them in order. This one contains "spoilers" for Monkey Wrench.
The characters are entertaining, and help get the reader wrapped in the story quickly. I found myself trying to get a few pages her and there, every chance I got. The spoilers are too bad -- other series writers are more careful not to do that, and looking back, it was not necessary to the plot.

Wow! I thought the very first P.J.Tracey book (Monkeewrench) was great, but this was even better. In Live Bait the story revolves around Detectives Magozzi and Rolseth as they investigate a series of murders, with help some from the team at Monkeewrench. The plot is different and the story moves quickly but the dialogue is really something special. The verbal interactions and witty exchanges between the characters really filled out their individual personalities. I feel like I've been reading about them for years!
Can't wait to start the subsequent book!
