Except for the very first two books, I have read all of Patricia Sprinkle's Thoroughly Southern Mystery series to date and have loved each one. The stories envelop the reader in the cozy comfort of visiting with old friends, without ever letting them overstay their welcome. Each book reveals something new about returning favorites and introduces enough new friends, family members, and villains to keep things fresh and interesting. The mysteries are clever, intriguing, complex. The setting is rich in the regional flavors, customs, and manners of the small-town South, but never at the expense of other cultures or groups of people. This series never disappoints.
I hope Signet will one day offer BUT WHY SHOOT THE MAGISTRATE? and WHEN DID WE LOSE HARRIET? in the same style as the rest of the series so my collection may be complete.

Judge MacLaren Yarborough is a captivating character that makes you want to read all the books in the series over again and again! The story moves along at a tremendous speed(unlike other books I have read.) The book entices you to want to do your own sleuthing. I think that anyone who wants a book they can cuddle up with on the couch should read this book and the rest in the series.

A disappointment. Don't waste your time or money. More of a presentation of a sad social problem than a mystery.

I have read all of Patricia Sprinkle's MacLaren mysteries and this one hit a home run. She grabbed my attention on the very first page and held it to the end. I cannot wait until another adventure in Hopemore, Ga. hits the bookstore. What a great way to spend a rainy day.

As I have read each of the books in this series, it's been a huge pleasure to get to know MacLaren Yarbrough. Ms Sprinkle does a wonderful job of developing character and story at the same time in books that are marvelously light reading. I can hardly wait for the subsequent tale of Mac's adventures! She's definitely become my favorite accidental detective.
