As much fiction as I've read somehow Koontz had eluded me until now. Excellent story development and flawless writer. My one critique is that I found the ending a bit abrupt and predictable. The power of Good needn't always win out in the end. In fact, I would've found it more interesting if Melanie had managed to do her self in, as was feared.

I am not yet done with this book but i just wanted to share my thoughts on it. I just love love love the storyline. I think its so good how the girl stayed aliver after being kidnapped for 6 years. Wow. Then they found her after the murders have taken place. Spooky! And she keeps muttering something about the door. "the...The.....door to Dec-ember" Wow I Really like this book. You never know what will happen in this book. There could be so many things that could happen. I cant wait to read the rest of the book. Very good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!<33333

I love Koontz. Matter of fact he is my favorite author. My two favorite books are Fear Nothing, and Seize the Night. I only hope he finishes that trilogy before I die.
I have no idea why anyone gave this book five stars. Unfortunately even Koontz writes duds, and this is one of them. I guess I cannot go by Amazon's reviews, because it seems people will just rate an okay book with 5 stars just because it is written by an author they love.
I am sorry Koontz, I love ya, but I know this could have been better.
He tried hard to make Dan a likable character, and he was, but I never clicked with him. My biggest disapointment thought is the ending. It could have been so much better.
I think he could easily shave 100 words from this novel, and it would not hurt it. It would make it better I think. Perhaps his readers want 500+ paged novels, so he thinks he has to make them all that long.
If you have read all the greatist by Koontz, then you can give this one a try. It is not bad, but it is not gripping either. It is like a decent movie that you will soon forget.

the author dragggggged this story way too long.....too many minute things mentioned instead of just getting to the point.
