Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - If All Books Were Held To This Standard, We Woud Never Be Disappointed
Fraternity of the Stone, along with Brotherhood of the Rose, are two of the best books I have ever read. Throughout this book, I was never once disappointed and at all times captivated by the characters, the attention to detail, and the fast paced nature of the plot lines.

With all the spy and espionage books available, it is important to return to books that were, and still remain, a cut above. This is a spy book at the peak of the rest, only being surpassed in quality by Brotherhood of the Rose. The action is well written, the psychology of a spy well described, and history of the secret agencies well represented. There are times when I thought I had read it all; but then I fall back to some classics, like this book, and realize that this book is precisely what a spy book should be.

I was not disappointed, and I seriously doubt any reader will be either.

---- Comments ----

Drew MacLane is an assassin and star agent who chooses to become a monk, sequestered in the most strict of monasteries, to try to forget the life - and the mistakes - he left behind. Things are going well until a mouse fortuitously illuminates the master plan of those come to hunt and kill him. Thrust suddenly back into his former life and fleeing with no-one to trust, Drew turns to the only connections he has left. The mysteries and trials of the life he led before are brought to light as friends and enemies are never what they seem.

---- What I liked ----
This is fun, fast, entertaining, forget-your-own-real-world, reading.

---- What I didn't ----
Somewhat predictable and there's nothing really deep here.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Action and more Action
The novel begins with a quick start and just gets faster and faster all the way to the end. Mr. Morrell certainly knows how to begin the action and continue. Also plenty of religion and knowledge of its orders envolved. I always feel that in all fiction there is a lot of fact and again I find it true with this writing. I highly recommend this one as I have the other four of his I have read. Do yourself a favor read it and enjoy.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - A Correction to Another Review
I just wanted to offer a minor correction to Mr Minde's review. He mentions "The League of Night & Fog" as an earlier novel than "Fraternity...;" "League" was the third novel of the trilogy, "Fraternity" was the second. In fact, Drew (the main character in "Fraternity") teams up with Saul (the surviving main character from "Brotherhood of the Rose") in "League." A minor point, I know, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

Rated by buyers 3 out of 5 stars - Misled by title and disappointed
The title of this book can led many readers to confusion in a way

I thought that this book, using fictional elements would extend to describe how the Fraternity of the Stone operates in the shadows, who are their associates, how they conduct their covert operations in order to protect and maintain the influence of the Church worldwide. I expected to learn something new about those things which seem hidden and for this reason, very attractive

But the fact is that what I have found was your average action thriller, poorly written which had a great beginning but began to falter after a few chapters due to the lack of background research of the author, who only seems to know the methods employed by the security teams and intelligence agencies to train their agents in the use of weapons, hand to hand combat and property assault

After reading Morrell for the third time it seems to me that he likes to highlight the action scenes in his books based on what I have mentioned above, which is great if the author is skilled managing suspense, something he is not very proficient at.

I think that Mr Morrell is a long way yet to attain the level of Frederick Forsyth or Robert Ludlum creating this kind of mystery/action thrillers, and this book is convincing evidence
