Product Description:
After getting caught turning wolf on national television, Kitty retreats to a mountain cabin to recover and write her memoirs. But this is Kitty, so trouble is never far behind, and instead of Walden Pond, she gets Evil Dead. When werewolf hunter Cormac shows up with an injured Ben O'Farrell, Kitty's lawyer, slung over his shoulder, and a wolf-like creature with glowing blue eyes starts sniffing around the cabin, Kitty wonders if any of them will get out of these woods alive...

This is Carrie Vaughn's third book about a werewolf named Kitty. I found this series to be amazing ever since book one, and it only seems to get better with age. The characters are refreshingly human for the genre, even if they don't all happen to be one. Kitty is still dealing with some issues from the previous books while tackling the problems presented in this one, her reactions realistic instead of seeming tacked on for the sake of the plot. There are consequences for all actions, good or bad, and learning to face them head-on is a theme held strongly throughout the book. Not even Kitty or her friends are exempt from this, making this fantasy world parallel with ours that much more realistic. The various twists keep the story fresh and your eyes glued to the page. One of the more compelling parts is the continuing debate over what makes one a monster--Kitty may be a werewolf, but she is no monster, which can't always be said for some of the fully human characters. Kitty Takes a Holiday is a completely engrossing read that will leave you eager for the subsequent installment.

After being the very first werewolf to come out and shift on public television (see book #2 Kitty Goes to Washington), Kitty has retreated to the mountains to get out of the public eye. She's even stopped doing her radio talk show. She is supposed to be writing her memoirs...but thats not exactly moving along either. Imagine Kitty's suprise when her friend/enemy/partner/potential love interest Cormac, shows up with an injured Ben O'Farrell in tow. Ben, Cormac's cousin, and Kitty's lawyer has been infected by a werewolf. Kitty promises herself and Cormac to take care of Ben through his very first change and to try to keep him positive in the trying days of his new life. To complicate matters, Kitty's cabin is being cursed and she doesn't know who is doing it. Also there is a suspicous activity in the town and the neighbors believe Kitty is probably responsible.
I think this was the strongest volume thus far. Vaughn is not afraid of taking chances with her characters...some potentially unpopular choices are made that affect Kitty, Ben and Cormac's lives. This works in her favor here as the story is intense, and exciting. The story line becomes more involved. I don't think this series will be able to be read as stand alones anymore. I must commed Vaughn for her beautifully drawn, complex characters, esepcially Cormac and Kitty. There is a depth to each of them that is uncommon in the paranormal genre. These aren't cookie cutter characters. While it doesn't end exactly on a cliffhanger, there is no solid, happy ending here. Yet, the book left me wanting more. How thrilled I am that the subsequent book is right in my TBR stack, and there are two more installments soon to be published. If you haven't started this series, I encourage you to start with "Kitty and the Midnight Hour" and assure you they keep getting better.

I love a story that focuses on the relationships as well as on the mystery. Vaughn does an excellent job of that.
Kitty is supposed to be writing a book and having a vacation. Instead, she is creating her own pack, mentoring a new werewolf and, oh, yeah, trying to figure out who is trying to, at best, scare her witless. We find out the connection between Ben and Cormac and quite a lot of both of their history.
This book is fantasy but things like this, minus the weres, could really happen. It's not easy being different in small town America. Okay, it's not easy being different anywhere in America but in a place where the law is a force unto itself, it can be pretty dangerous. Kitty and Company find out just how dangerous.

Kitty is taking a holiday away from the world so she can sort of find herself and have a little time to chill out. One day, while sh'es on the cabin, somebody leaves a gutted rabbit outside. The subsequent time something appears on her door is in the form of Cormac carrying an injured Ben. Ben has been attacked by a werewolf, and Cormac wants Kitty to teach him the ways of the wolf. If he turns out savage or crazy, Cormac will kill him. But the gutted animals keep on popping, as well as some kind of nasty werewolf...
I liked the change of pace of this book, and with all the other of Kitty, I found that this one is a keeper.

Where oh where has my Kitty gone, oh where oh where can she be? Hiding out in the woods and if you think that is a sad ending for a once promising series, just wait until you read the end. No, there is no end so you can't read it. This chapter of Kitty Norville's life sets up some interesting challenges, is Cormac a good guy? (Does anyone think this is Edward's sweet twin?) Is Ben ready for deeper involvement in Kitty's supernatural doings? Can Kitty stay still long enough to write her life story and does anyone care? Oh yes since there is no ending why not make this a cliff-hanger? Can a curse carry over from one book to the next? Let's hope not.
Instead of finding Kitty up to her neck in dirty deeds and strange tales, she's suffering from lack of direction and writer's block. Now it would be wrong to minimize the seriousness of writer's block, but it doens't rank with global warming or peace in the middle east. Get over it and get a story.
After a great beginning and none of the wasted sexuality that plagues Laurel K Hamilton's recent glop Kitty looked so promising. Then this... maybe a silver bullet is just what Kitty needs.
