Rated by buyers 3 out of 5 stars - Good book, but total "fiction"
This was a good book and I enjoyed the read but had to write a review to tell you to forget the depiction of Colombia because absolutely none of it is true. Having adopted from Colombia myself, I never felt unsafe. Most Colombian people are extremely friendly and helpful. Colombia is a beautiful country and like any country, there are some dangerous places, too bad this author had to depict Colombia as such a horrible place.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Awesome edge of your seat action packed!!!
This is an awesome book. Kept me on the edge of my seat through the whole book up until the last chapter. Grabs you and doesn't let go. Its one of those books that you don't want to put down until your done. Highly recommond to all.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Great Read! Fast Paced and Action Packed!
This is the second book I have read by Siegel. The very first being "Derailed" (much better book than a movie by the way). I really enjoyed the author's style while reading that book. It had action, it was interesting, not full of boring details. And each chapter left you hanging and craving more.

This book was no different. The story line may have been a little far fetched, or is it? Could this happen? Anything is possible. The story grabs you from the start and pulls you in. I stayed up way too late many nights wanting to find out what happened next. Finally, I just read the whole thing!

A story about a couple from New York who desperately wants a child of their own. After many years of failed attempts at fertility and other means, they decide to adopt. They don't want to go through the long and drawn out adoption process of usual after having gone through years of failing on their own. So, they turn to an adoption attorney who handles adoptions in Columbia. The process is surprisingly quicker there and less hassle. What they don't know is that trouble awaits. Soon, they find themselves captives of one of Columbia's guerilla factions. The only way our hero can save his family? Smuggle 2 million dollars of cocaine into the U.S. in 18 hours! Let the action begin!

Enjoyable characters, fast paced action, believable story, and great ending. I'll say this about Siegel, he ends a book well. Some authors either end too quick or don't end at all and leave you hanging. Siegel ends just right! The book has plenty of twists and turns to keep your attention. It plays like a movie in your head.

Read this when you have no other distractions because if you have something else to do, this book will keep you from it!! Enjoy it, I did!

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - A thrill of a ride...
Having read Derailed, I was anxious to see what else Siegel is capable of and I was not disappointed. It was an edge of seat story that was hard to put down. Although the main characters of both books tend to be weak at first, they soon figure out a clever way out of their pridicament. It was an excellent book even if I did figure out some of the twists ahead of time. I highly reccommend this book and this author.

Rated by buyers 2 out of 5 stars - A Major Disappointment!
I bought this book having high expectations, having read the author's fast pace and tense thriller Derailed. Those expectations were far from met. This story is about a couple looking to adopt a child overseas who are steered to Colombia by their "lawyer." When they get there they are led out of Bogot? to a convent in the countryside. On the way they see murders being committed to hapless individuals on a hunger strike against the government (in fact their very first picture of Colombia when landing is that of a headless body). They finally arrive at the convent and receive a baby girl who they fall instantly in love with.

When the couple gets back to their hotel with the baby, the baby's nursemaid disappears for a time with the baby. Later when apparently the nursemaid returns with the baby the couple starts to suspect that it is a different baby. When they go to the nursemaid's home to confront her, they are kidnapped by the FARC (Colombia's guerilla organization). The kidnappers tell Paul (the husband) if he wants to see his wife and daughter alive again, he will have to act as a mulo (mule) and transport cocaine that he has to swallow to the US.

When Paul does what they ask him, the men at the drop-off point are murdered and the drugs are lost. Thus Paul now has no way to appease the kidnappers to get his wife and daughter released. The rest of the book just falls apart from there with corrupt lawyers, police and the usual captive/kidnapper relationship. The ending is pretty far-fetched and overall the book was a major disappointment.

Having been to Colombia many times, I feel that the author is insulting in his portrayal of a beautiful place with extremely friendly and hard working people. The author is too stereotypical in portraying Colombia as a place ravaged by death and destruction with everyone involved in the drug trade. This would be like saying that everyone from New York is involved in the Mafia. Maybe if the author actually went to Colombia (from the book I do not feel he ever did) he would feel ashamed of what he wrote.
