Product Description:
Celebrity werewolf and late-night radio host Kitty Norville prefers to be heard and not seen. So when she's invited to testify at a Senate hearing on behalf of supernaturals, and her face gets plastered on national TV, she inherits a new set of friends, and enemies, including the vampire mistress of the city; an über-hot Brazilian were-jaguar; and a Bible-thumping senator who wants to expose Kitty as a monster. Kitty quickly learns that in this city of dirty politicians and backstabbing pundits, everyone's itching for a fight.

Rated by buyers 3 out of 5 stars - Kitty Goes to Washington
Kitty Norville is the host of her one-of-a-kind radio show, "The Midnight Hour" where she and her listeners discuss all things paranormal: werewolves, vampires etc. Since Kitty also happens to be a werewolf she is seen as kind of a celebrity expert in the field.

So when the Senate decides to hold a hearing about the necessity and validity of the Center for the study of the Paranatural Kitty gets called to the stand and she brings her trusty lawyer Ben.

Kitty is in a bit of a bind though trying to exercise her newfound freedom from the pack while staying out of trouble. Once in DC she is practically kidnapped and taken to the vampire Mistress' home where she will be 'safe.' Alette seems to be truly good but she is still a vampire. Kitty also gets to meet more 'weres' in DC and not just of the wolf variety. She meets a hot were-leopard and a bunch of new friends that hang out in relative peace without any of the pack posturing.

Once the Senate hearing is underway there are a whole host of witnesses other than Kitty including the Reverend Elijah Smith who is serious bad news for any in the paranormal community.

Kitty gets kidnapped again but on the night of the full moon by a series of individuals that want to prove their points about the paranormal.

Oh, and also there's a plot to overthrow Alette.

Basically there's a lot going on in this book. The action is very fast-paced and the book probably would have been better if the author had settled on one plot direction instead of several but you get a really good idea of how hectic Kitty's life has become.

Like many other urban fantasy books Kitty is the unwitting (and usually unwilling) heroine. Trouble just seems to dog her footsteps. :)

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Book 2 of the series....
Kitty has had to leave Denver after a fight with the alpha male and his mate of her pack. It's either leave or be killed, so she decides to take her show on the road. She runs it from a different radio station every week. When she is nearing California, her lawyer, Ben calls to let her know she needs to get to Washington, D.C. in order to speak before the senate. She is to try and convince them that werewolves and vampires are not monsters and that they are not a threat to national security or the human population. While there, the traveling preacher who was in very first book shows up. He supposedly can cure werewolves and vampires and has quite a cult following. This new character is not a werewolf or vampire but he's something...I won't give away what he is. While there, Kitty also finds a new group of werewolves that are totally unlike the members of her previous pack. These actually get along. Plus when she very first reaches town, there is a roadblock and the Men in Black are checking everyone's driver's license. When they get to her, they take her away to the local Vampire Queen's house where she is to be a "guest". Kitty has become more independent in second book and doesn't much like the new arrangements but she is stuck in the meantime. After all you can not be rude to a vampire queen. Also there is a bible thumping Senator who wants to see her go down and he kidnaps her and makes her turn into a wolf on national tv (and in front of her parents who take all this in stride evidently). A fast moving plot and it is so enthralling that I couldn't put the book down until I finished the whole thing. There is quite a bit of humour in these stories and it's a great series. Just read them in order so you don't get lost. I'm getting so involved in the stories that I actually wondered if the radio announcer Wolfman Jack was called that for a reason!

Rated by buyers 2 out of 5 stars - A slight misstep in an otherwise great series
***POTENTIAL SPOILERS***

This is the second entry in the Kitty series & while most of the book is rather slow the last third of the book or so picks up. After that the author seems to get back to what she does best, creating a great story that keeps you reading until you find out what happens next.

The book begins where the second one ends, Kitty exploring life as an independent woman & werewolf, doing her show remotely as she tries to find her place in the world. She is summoned to testify in front of Congress & must go straight to Washington D.C. While there Kitty's world expands & she sees how others in her situation deal with being supernatural. However, this is also where Vaughn's novel gets weighed down in politics & is by far the slowest part in the entire series. It isn't until later in the book, once Kitty stumbles upon secret labs and possible experiments that the story gets back to familiar territory-unexpected plot twists, exciting changes, & interesting characters. The last third of the book is as entertaining as the very first book "Kitty & the Midnight Hour" and sets up the story for the third installment without leaving the reader hanging.

If you enjoyed "Kitty & the Midnight Hour" & want to continue the series, I suggest you read this book so you'll understand everything that happens in the later books but don't judge the series on this installment alone. Understand that this is the weakest of all the books & if you haven't read the very first one, don't start with this or you probably won't get much out of it.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Less Action, Still a Good Ride
Kitty, the werewolf turned talk show DJ, is on the move as a single werewolf without a pack's protection. Since her old pack was oppressive and abusive, Kitty is enjoying her new 'identity'. Here, Kitty has been called to Washington to testify before the Senate in a hearing publically announcing werewolves, vampires, and other creatures of the night. Kitty finds hereself messed up with new characters, she can't know who to trust and everyone seems to have their own agenda. By about 100 pages in this story, I was feeling disheartened. The story seemed slow, bogged down by too many new characters and not enough action. Time and again Kitty remarkes on things being a letdown, or 'anticlimactic' which fits the story here, actually. In the very first volume, "Kitty and the Midnight Hour", I remember being disgusted by Kitty and how she let the alpha treat her. That book turned around for me when Kitty decided to stop playing the weak victim. This story too ends up much better off than I had given credit for. An old favorite shows up from the very first book and several more interesting things shape up. There is a betrayal or two, a murder or two, and Kitty remains a strong heroine. I found myself a little sorry to have this one end. I also rate the bonus story "Kitty Meets the Band" as an excellent addition. It's only a short story, but its fun. I recommend this one, and I also look forward to the subsequent installment.

Rated by buyers 3 out of 5 stars - Love the book, but I'm a little pissed that it's missing 30 pages right out of the middle of the book!
And no, I didn't buy it used... I bought it new, right here from Amazon. It goes from page 206 then jumps to page 239. If it was just misnumbering, that would be no big deal, but it jumps obviously in the story and I'm traumatized. Any one else have this issue? I can't imagine I got the only bad copy.
