I really enjoyed this book. It was different from many thrillers I have already read.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Nothing to Fear
This is my very first Karen Rose book, and I will definitely go out and buy her others.

NOTHING TO FEAR isn't your typical whodunnit, because from the moment the very first crime occurs you don't have to guess who did it, you know. The only question is, why?

Karen Rose sucks you into this book from the very beginning. The moment you read her opening hook, questions start forming in your mind and you can't help wonder who Sue Conaway is, and what drives her to such evil.

The reader very first encounters Sue Conaway at a funeral and right from the start you get the feeling that she's not there to pay her respects. It doesn't take long to figure out that she's waiting for someone to arrive, and though you don't know who that person is, you know something horrible is about to happen to them. AND right on cue, Karen Rose proves your instincts right with Sue Conaway's bitter words. "Be afraid, I'm coming."

When Randi and Stan Vaughn return home from vacation they find a dead body in their shed and their twelve year old son, Alex and his speech therapist, Cheryl Rickman, gone. The only thing left behind is a note to say that their son has been kidnapped and will be killed if they contact the authorities.

Next we meet Ethan Buchanan when the Vaughn's beg him to find their son. Ethan tries to reason with them, to make them realize that he's not the FBI or the police, but they won't take no for an answer. The Vaughn's win him over when Stan plays on Ethan's guilt over the death of his brother, Richard, when they served together in Kandahar. Scared to death for Alex who is not only deaf and mute, but his Godson, Ethan agrees. Next thing he knows, he is on the trail of a murderer, and inadvertently ends up in the arms of the woman of his dreams.

Dana Dupinsky has dedicated her life to helping abused women, so its nothing out of the ordinary when "Jane," contacts her about staying at her shelter, known as Hanover House. Dana is waiting late one night at the train station which is bringing Jane and her son, when Dana tries to stop a mugging. The old lady is unharmed, but Dana ends up being knocked down and into the arms of Ethan Buchanan. Sparks fly between the two and a relationship begins to form.

In the end Ethan finds out that there is a whole lot he doesn't know about Dana. AND when her friends start coming up dead, Dana realizes that she must place her trust in Ethan or suffer the same fate.

AND in the end they work together to bring down a murderer.

If you're curious to know what happens in the end, you'll just have to read.

This book has so many layers that peel away answering question after question, and I had a hard time putting it down. I found myself biting my lip at some of the horrific things Sue Conaway was capable of. AND many times as I read, I remember hearing, the words, "Ahh, so that's why?" repeated over and over in my mind.

I just want to give Mrs. Rose a shout out- Congratulations on a MAGNIFICENT read!

I give this book 5 ***** stars!

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Suspenseful but Formulaic
I've read three from Karen Rose so far and they are indeed "page-turners" (I found "Have You Seen Her" to be the best). Rose writes very well and keeps the reader wondering until the very end. I only have two criticisms: (1) plots are overpopulated; there are so many players, I often find myself pausing to remember who's who and how they relate to the story, and (2) the "intimate" scenes are formulaic--strong woman hasn't been with a man for years, meets honorable and handsome guy who also hadn't planned on a new relationship, etc., If you read one Rose sex scene, you've read them all. But don't get me wrong, I think this prolific writer is great and I will be purchasing more of her books.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Rose is one of my new favorite romantic suspense authors...
Good book, though a bit on the dark and semi-gorey side. I don't think I liked it as much as the other two Karen Rose books that I've read, but I did enjoy reading it. Like "Have You Seen Her" one of the things I liked about this book was the character continuity. Dana was in "Don't Tell" as a secondary character, so it was nice to read her story. And I liked seeing what Caroline and Max (from Don't Tell) were up to. Plus Rose also brings back Evie. (I hope someday she gives Evie her book).

Anyway, the book had a good plot. I think it helps to have read "Don't Tell" very first because you have a more clear picture of some of the nuances about what Dana does. But even so, the plot was stand alone. Like Rose's other books, she doesn't keep the antagonist a secret. You know from pretty much the very first page who the bad guy is going to be. I'm not sure how much I like that. It takes away some of the suspense. Aside from that, I like how the plot was built-up and worked with. The story kept me into the book. And the romance was pretty good. I liked Dana and Ethan. They worked pretty well together.

One of the negatives of the book, in my opinion, was that I think Rose spent too much time on the antagonist. I just felt there were too many pages dedicated to the bad guy's POV. I didn't need that much to have the story work, and I really didn't need some of the gory details that came out in those POV sections. I sometimes ended up skimming through those parts. But it didn't kill that the book, it just made it about longer than it needed to be.
