I have read the whole series and love it. Could not wait till this book came out. It is a must have.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Hasn't disappointed me yet...
I really enjoy reading the "Candy Shop Mysteries". They keep getting better. Can't wait for the subsequent installment!

Rated by buyers 2 out of 5 stars - Good Series, Bad Installment
I've enjoyed this series up until now, but after finishing this installment, I'm left wondering what its purpose was.

The book really consisted of nothing but Abby running around town saying to everyone she meets, "Do you mind if I ask you a few questions?" until she was finally able to figure out what was going on. I'm still not sure why she was doing this, since the police seemed to have a handle on the case without her help.

There were also loose ends that were left hanging -- why was her nephew at the gym and how did he get there? Is her relationship with Jawarski now moving forward? The author never bothered to wrap things up for us.

I also have one pet peeve with this series. Why does Abby take Max the Dog with her everywhere she goes, only to leave him in the car or chained up outside whatever persons' business she's currently annoying? As a pet owner, I find this irresponsible and making absolutely no sense.

I hope the subsequent installment is better.

Rated by buyers 3 out of 5 stars - Maybe I'm just getting jaded with and tired of the 'cozy' formula. Try it for yourself and make up your own mind.
I can't decide whether or not to look forward to the subsequent book in this series. Generally by the third outing, I feel that I know whether a series is going to be a 'keeper' for me or a 'hey there is another book in that series that I stopped reading 3 years ago' kind of deal. But with the Candy Store series I may have to break my rule and check out the fourth. This isn't a particularly good book nor is it a particularly bad book. It just is.

I do have the feeling that much of the mystery writing world has jumped on the 'cozy' bandwagon and the genre is, in general, being overworked, overwritten, and in turn becoming trite and boring. The one big thing this book has going for it is that it isn't a 'craft cozy'. As I search the library and the bookstores for new and different authors to sample I keep wondering if there is a dearth of qualified and competent police departments in the United States or if the amateur sleuth, who has really very little reason to get involved in a murder investigation, is replacing Mickey and Judy's "hey let's put on a show" with "hey let's blunder around, asking leading questions of murder suspects and then be surprised when the guilty party gets mad and tries to murder me/us"? And to make it even worse, the amateur does this time and time and time again.

The bad thing it has going for it is that the character is going NOWHERE fast. She is still as lost in her personal life as she was in the very first few pages of the very first book. Still wondering whether she is worthy of her aunt's trust in leaving the candy store to her rather than one of the other cousins.... And I agree with the reviewer that noticed that each of the books in this series have a very rushed feeling to their last chapter. Like murder, blunder, blunder, blunder, question, blue herring, guilty party revealed, danger, rescue....THE END.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - A Good Addition to a Good Series
I have been a fan of this series since "Candy Apple Dead" and it seems with each new release in this series, the books get better and better. The mystery, the blue herrings and the character development are good and get stronger with each entry. I must, however, agree with the reviewer who said that the ending seems rushed. They do seem that way in each of the books in this series. This entry this is slightly improved, but I always leave these books feeling like if the author had just added about 20 more pages, the ending would not feel so rushed and it would have a more complete feel.

I would definitely recommend this book, and the whole series, to anyone who enjoys cozy mysteries and food lovers (I always want to eat a lot of chocolate while reading these books. I am looking forward to the subsequent book in the series.
