Editor's Notes and Comments:

Product Description:
Police Lieutenant Phoebe MacNamara found her calling at an early age when an unstable man broke into her family's home, trapping and terrorizing them for hours. Now she's Savannah's top hostage negotiator, defusing powderkeg situations with a talent for knowing when to give in-and when to jump in and take action. It's satisfying work-and sometimes those skills come in handy at home dealing with her agoraphobic mother, still traumatized by the break-in after all these years, and her precocious seven-year-old, Carly.

It's exactly that heady combination of steely courage and sensitivity that very first attracts Duncan Swift to Phoebe. After observing her coax one of his employees down from a roof ledge, he is committed to keeping this intriguing, take-charge woman in his life. She's used to working solo, but Phoebe's discovering that no amount of negotiation can keep Duncan at arm's length.

And when she's grabbed by a man who throws a hood over her head and brutally assaults her-in her own precinct house-Phoebe can't help but be deeply shaken. Then threatening messages show up on her doorstep, and she's not just alarmed but frustrated. How do you go face-to-face with an opponent who refuses to look you in the eye?

Now, with Duncan backing her up every step of the way, she must establish contact with the faceless tormentor who is determined to make her a hostage to fear . . . before she becomes the final showdown.

Rated by buyers 2 out of 5 stars - Took Too Long To Finish
I started this book last winter, and read some of it, then put it away as I just could not get into it! I just finished, and agree that the police terminology is hard to follow. The story jumps around too much - would not even make a good Lifetime movie. It is hard to believe that this is a Nora Roberts Novel.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Roberts Never Fails the Reader
High Noon was a thoroughly enjoying novel. The characters were well developed and likeable. The plot twists were entertaining. A great read for the summer.

Rated by buyers 3 out of 5 stars - Disappointing
As I read this book, I kept wondering if it was the 2nd book of a Nora Roberts trilogy. I just knew there must be a book before and a book after that could explain all the hanging threads.

I'm a big fan of Nora Roberts and Savannah is one of my favorite cities, so when I picked this book up I was excited. Her description of the city falls flat. It's as if she picked up a tourist guide and used a few quotes, never really portraying the real character of the city.

As for the plot, so many threads are just "there", with no rhyme or reason. Some characters are thrown into the story with no introduction, others disappear with no explanation. Major story premises are not explained --- for instance WHY is Phoebe forced to live in the Jones St house?

This just doesn't even read like a Nora Roberts book to me. Skip this one and wait for her next.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - First-time Nora Roberts reader
High Noon is the very very first Nora Roberts book I have read and I have a lot of reading to catch up on if all of her books are like this one. I'm not an eloquent critic but I loved the relationship between Phoebe and Duncan. The story had the perfect amount of romance, humor, and suspense to keep me from putting it down.

Rated by buyers 3 out of 5 stars - Not her best work
I have read all of Roberts' books, including her Robb books. I think this is the only one I didn't like. It just didn't click for me. The plot was okay, but something just wasn't right. I'm not sure if it was the characters or the way the story developed, but this was one Roberts book could have lived without.
