Editor's Notes and Comments:

Product Description:
DANICA SHARDAE IS an avian shapeshifter, and the golden hawk’s form in which she takes to the sky is as natural to her as the human one that graces her on land. The only thing more familiar to her is war: It has raged between her people and the serpiente for so long, no one can remember how the fighting began. As heir to the avian throne, she’ll do anything in her power to stop this war—even accept Zane Cobriana, the terrifying leader of her kind’s greatest enemy, as her pair bond and make the two royal families one.

Trust. It is all Zane asks of Danica—and all they ask of their people—but it may be more than she can give.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Great teen fantasy light romance novel
Although a very easy read, this is one of my favorite fantasy novels. This book starts the Kiesha'ra series, and starts it well.
The Avians and Serpiente have been in war for hundreds of years, so long in fact that neither side know's how and why the war got started. With nothing more to go on than the revenge for their people's deaths, the two new leaders of each side are tired of the endless bloodshed and seek help from a neutral land. Zane, leader of the Serpiente, and Danica, leader of the Avians, are given the proposal that in order to put the two sides at rest, you must start with the middle- tie the two royal families. Outraged at this "insane" idea, the two families and their people quickly put an end to this proposition although Danica and Zane secretly think it's insane enough to just might work. Under the cloak of darkness Danica secretly meets with Zane to make the final arrangements of which is the final desperate endeavor to make peace. With the understanding that neither of them could ever love the other, the deal is set. At very first their two different upbringings clash, leaving both feeling empty and alone, but as time goes on along with an assassin on the loose, feelings change.
Rhodes does an excellent job of not only describing her characters, but endearing them to us also. The story is fabulously put together, from beginning to end and you wont be able to put it down. For those who love shape shifters fantasy books, you'll love this one.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Delicious as always!
I have started and restarted this book for over a year. I never made it past the beginning before, not because I wasn't interested, but because I'm easily distracted. When I finally sat down to read it, I found what I had been missing. I read Hawksong in a day, and immediately rushed to the local library for the subsequent book. The characters are involved, the plot is original, and the ending is happy. I like happy endings, but I also like to be surprised, and this book surprised me. Great series, I'd recommend it to anyone.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - The beginning to an amazing series!
As most say "the original is the best", its been that way for me with Hawksong since 9th grade. Now reading again late last year, I love how she describes the vivid avian and serpentiene cultures. Her character development has improved, though I think it could've been a little longer, with more dark drama balancing the love story. A great beginning to the series...

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Flying high
Everyone must read this book about love, hate, challenges, and Shape shifters. The book Hawksong is really good. The Author is Ameila Atwater-Rhodes. There is a lot of people who don't like romance books, but most will like this one. In this book there are two types of shape shifters, Avian and serpents, although they are at war . Danica and Zane are the main characters. This book has a lot of love, hate, and war. This is a must read book.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Shapeshifting Profile in Courage
Not a lot happens in Amelia Atwater-Rhodes' HAWKSONG, but the description, characterization, and central idea hold the book up despite its AWOL plot. If you're looking for page-turning action, you probably could do better with another fantasy, but if you're into the organic growth of a troubled relationship between two beautiful people with strong personalities, this is your book.

In a nutshell, Danica Shardae, a shapeshifting leader-to-be among the hawks, is matched with Zane Cobriana, a shapeshifting leader-to-be among the serpents. Snakes and birds are like oil and water, and these two races have been at war for so long that no one on either side quite remembers the reason for its start (sound like a few feuding tribes from our world?).

A neutral tribe, the Mistari, suggests that Danica and Zane end the constant warring by joining their hands (wings, fangs, what-have-you) in marriage. Can they do it, despite heavy opposition from the rank and file in both tribes? Is there enough trust to make the marriage work? Can they get used to each other's completely different cultural norms and habits to forge a lasting peace? And do the two leaders have enough charisma to prevent treacherous assassins from trying to take matters into their own hands?

If those questions appeal and if you love to read about relationships, HAWKSONG is your book. If "just trying to get along" is too "touchy-feely" for your plot-hungry soul, on the other hand, continue your search.
