Editor's Notes and Comments:

Product Description:
USA Today bestselling author Mary Daheim knows how to spin a mystery with a tight plot and captivatingly eccentric characters. And her vivid Pacific Northwest setting–a character in itself–has garnered her a plethora of devoted fans. Now her resourceful and resolute journalist Emma Lord is back with a new mystery to solve–and an even tougher deadline to meet.

Members of the Burl Creek Thimble Club, a quilting circle in small-town Alpine, Washington, are planning a fete to welcome back Genevieve Bayard, who left the group, and Alpine, decades ago. But Gen’s homecoming is cut decidedly short when she dies at a dinner party. Emma Lord, owner and publisher of the local newspaper, The Alpine Advocate, immediately arrives on the scene to report the incident and sleuth her way to the truth.

Though it appears that Gen wasn’t adored by everyone in the Alpine community, her untimely death still comes as a shock. To help solve the mystery, Emma turns to Vida Runkel, the Advocate’s trusty House & Home editor. Such a notorious story would normally have Vida chomping at the bit, but to Emma’s surprise Vida is hesitant, even downright unwilling to get involved.

The demise of Genevieve Bayard, however, isn’t the only crime in Alpine. There has been a rash of burglaries, including at Emma’s own cozy log cabin. Are the break-ins and the murder connected? As Emma digs, she uncovers a shocking scandal that may point the finger of guilt at one of her nearest and dearest . . . while single-handedly changing the history of Alpine itself.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Another Excellent Entry
The Alpine Series is a delight, and this is an excellent example. Who really cares whodunit when you have such a wonderful cast of characters to laugh at/with.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - The Alpine Quilt
The book ordered came in a timely manner and was exactly what I wanted in excellent condition for a great price, even with 3.99 ship and handl.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Who knew quilting could be murder?
When Genevieve Bayard dies while having dinner with a friend, Emma Lord, owner and publisher of the local newspaper, The Alpine Advocate, arrives on the scene to report the incident. Gen had recently returned to Alpine, Washington, and the members of the Burl Creek Thimble Club had thrown her a welcome back party. Although not everyone adored Gen, her death was still a shock.

Normally Vida Runkel, the Advocate's House and Home editor, would have been all over such an event and helped Emma discover the killer's identity. Instead, Vida seems unwilling to get involved or even discuss it.

At the same time, there has been a rash of burglaries in town. Even Emma's cabin is vandalized. Could these be related to the murder?

As Emma digs into Gen's past, she uncovers a shocking scandal. Can she find the killer? Could it be her dear friend?

I always enjoy books in this series. Emma is such a fun character, and Vida really makes me laugh. Emma and Milo's relationship has grown throughout the books, but I like how there is still uncertainty with it. Having Emma's brother Ben in town really enhanced the story. Gave her a real reason to get involved with solving the murder, plus I thought it made me like her even more.

I am especially partial to the location of the book as I grew up in Washington State and went over the passes frequently. I feel as if I know Alpine, even though it isn't a real town.

If you haven't read this series, I recommend you give it a whirl. I recommend this book and series.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - One of the best
The Alpine Quilt is one of the most cohesive of the Emma Lord mysteries. The story line is pieced together exactly like a quilt. I have read every one of this series, and so far, in this book, the interweaving of the characters and the plot is excellent. Be on the look out for some surprises.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Very good but ..........
A very good Alpine mystery, fast paced, very involved plot. Lots of quirky characters in Alpine but I could actually keep them all straight. Complicated story, that really had very little to do with quilting if that's what a reader is hoping for. I'm glad to see that Emma is again finding a little romance, not just a fast fling with the sheriff.
The 'But .........' in this mystery is the mode of death. This was weak & even medically incorrect in the pharmacology of glypizide. Hopefully Ms Daheim will do more research in such details in the future.
Otherwise it's a good read.
