Product Description:
Twins, Connor and Grace, never dreamed that there was any truth to the Vampirate shanty their father sang to them before he died, but that was before the two were shipwrecked and separated from each other. For Connor, who is taken aboard a pirate ship, there's the chance to learn to swordfight, but for Grace, aboard a mysterious ship of vampire pirates, the danger is great. What will it take for them to find each other?

Vampirates, by Justin Somper, was one of the best books I've ever read. The book starts off with Grace and Connor, the Tempest twins, without parents or relatives. They go out to sea and get shipwrecked. Connor gets stuck on a pirate ship and has a blast in two raids, but Grace gets stuck on a ship of vampire pirates who badly want to suck her blood! I loved reading Vampirates because it was full of exciting, mysterious, and mythical adventure.Nothing could be done to improve the wonderful book, Vampirates by Justin Somper.

After tragedy strikes, teenage twins Connor and Grace Tempest decide to strike out on their own. But they get caught in a storm, their boat capsized. Both are rescued by separate pirate ships. But Grace soon realizes that her rescuers are more than what they seem, and much more frightening.
Connor, a gifted athlete, is taken on as an apprentice aboard the pirate ship The Diablo. The crew warm to him immediately, as he seems suited to the life. But Connor doesn't agree with the stealing and violence. But his very first priority is to find his lost sister, whom he believes is still alive.
Grace, too, hopes more than anything that her brother somehow made it through the storm. And the illusive captain of her rescuer's ship consoles her that Connor is still alive. But how does he know? And why do they keep her locked in a strange room with bizarre happenings?
Fans of pirates and vampires are in for a special treat, as what could be better than combining the two? Vampirates: Demons of the Ocean, is a fantastic idea and an exciting story of danger and adventure on the high seas. The Vampirates are mysterious and riveting, making the regular pirates pale in comparison. For a swashbuckling good time, be sure to check out this fun series!

Okay, my very first thought when I saw this book was... Vampires. Pirates. You have to be kidding me.
But, to my amazement, this was much better than it sounds. Vampires who roam the high seas really isn't a bad thing. In fact, it rather allows in some creativity.
The setting is also a little different. It's a feasable future where soccer and the like lives in conjunction with an old-time vibe of nautical notions and small town aura. So we have a nice blend of opposing worlds that makes a suprisingly great place to stick in vampires.
Then we have our characters--two mysterious twins who have been orphaned. They are separated, one joining regular pirates, the other captured by a strange vampirate ship.
It's much better than it sounds, I promise. I quite enjoyed it.

If you were an orphan
Adrift on the sea
Vampire or pirate
Which one would you be?
But there wasn't a choice
For Connor and Grace
Cast apart by a storm
Each to a different place
One twin ended up on
A big pirate ship
The other woke up in
A vampirate's grip
Though the future was dim
Through the mist and the rain
They never lost hope
That they'd meet up again
This is an exciting adventure for young readers from about eight or nine. It combines several unlikely elements, such as being set in the future and yet taking inspiration from history, as well as combining a child's favorite villains to introduce "vampirates"
This very first book in the series introduces the main characters, Connor and Grace Tempest, teenaged twins who are orphaned when their father passes away. Unable to live with the choices available, the twins run off in their father's boat, which fails to weather a terrible storm and they are cast into the sea.
They are both rescued, but by different ships, and neither knows if the other has survived. The rest of the story deals with the way each copes with the hand fate has dealt. Told in simple language, and with colorful and intriguing characters, this one is recommended for young readers interested in pirates and vampires.
