Product Description:
When B-grade L.A. movie producer Tony Aliso is found stuffed into the trunk of his Rolls Royce, all signs point to “trunk music” —a mob hit. Detective Harry Bosch, just back from an “involuntary stress leave,” is not so sure. And when he finds the money trail, he follows it…all the way to Vegas.

Seems this Tony had his share of enemies, and in no time, so does Harry: Vegas thugs, LAPD’s organized crime unit, a smarmy internal affairs investigator and, of course, Tony’s killers. Everyone wants a piece of Harry. And somehow, they’ve found just the way to get it. . .

Turns out that just before his death, Tony was seen at a Vegas poker table with one Eleanor Wish?ex-FBI agent, ex-convict . . . and ex-love of Harry’s life. Now it’s time for Harry to keep his cards close to the table—and his enemies even closer before it’s time to face the TRUNK MUSIC

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Another great Bosch novel
After being on suspension and tracking down his mother's killer, Harry Bosch returns to homicide and is partnered with former partner Jerry Edgar and new partner Kiz Rider. Their very first case is a big one. Anthony Aliso's is found in the trunk of his Rolls Royce. All indications are that the murder was a mob hit. When Bosch tells Aliso's wife, Veronica, of the death, she isn't very sad. Anthony had been spending a lot of time in Vegas lately gambling and carousing with a younger woman. The trail takes Bosch to Vegas where he encounters an old flame, Eleanor Wish, as well as some characters that will be featured in future novels.

For me, this wasn't one of my favorite novels, but Connelly still delivers with a complex plot and memorable characters. Was Aliso a victim of a mob hit, of "trunk music", or was it something else? All signs point to Luke Goshen, a thug in Vegas who operates a club and works under mob man Tony Marks. As usual with Connelly, there are plenty of twists and turns and fans won't be disappointed.

After reading some of the later books in the series, I've started reading them in order. It really is fun to follow the characters in the series from the beginning. It was great to see Eleanor Wish again after her stunning downfall in the Black Echo.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Harry Misreads the Clues
Michael Connelly does something unusual in Trunk Music: He makes Harry Bosch fallible in his work as well as in his private life. The result is that Harry has setbacks that go beyond his usual run-ins with LAPD authority. The result is entertaining and convoluted, providing novelty to this excellent series.

This isn't my favorite in the series by a long shot. The noir aspects just aren't as dark as in Connelly's best efforts.

Gallows humour saves the book, beginning with finding a corpse in a car trunk where the crime scene can be seen from the audience at the Hollywood Bowl. Even Harry knows that he's got to avoid messing up the concert. The show must go on!

The Las Vegas parts of the story open up many new threads for future tales, including a meeting in this book with an old friend from The Black Echo.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - A Vegas Twist
Harry Bosch is on the prowl again. It's his very first case back from a suspension and it leads Harry to the seamy side of Vegas. He encounters an old flame and is caught up in a case that has enough twists and turns to keep your head spinning. Mr. Connelly's writing is crisp and his characters are well drawn. It doesn't get any better than this.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Harry's back!
After being out of work for over a year, Harry is finally back in the saddle, so to speak. There is a new lieutenant in charge of Hollywood's homicide team who has changed things around and Harry finds himself the leader of a three-person team - himself, his old partner Jerry Edgar, and a relatively new rising star Kizmin Rider. When they are called out on a case, it is soon apparent that the deceased was assassinated - and it looks like a mob hit - Trunk Music. There is a special group that handles Organized Crime, but Harry is reluctant to turn over his very first case in over a year and a half - when he finally contacts them, much to his surprise, they say they aren't interested, don't know the guy, and have at it. His suspicions raised, Harry sets out to learn the truth.

Moving between Las Vegas and Los Angeles, this tense tale brings us face to face with the many cruelties that people can inflict upon one another. It also re-introduces us to someone from a previous book, but *lips sealed* You'll have to read the book. A definite recommendation from me!

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - The Usual Good Stuff of a Bosch Novel
Connelly gives readers the total package in Trunk Music. Bosch plays the tough-guy investigator back on the job after a suspension. He grabs his very first homicide case by the horns and goes against the FBI, the IAD and the mob as he follows the trail to Las Vegas from LA. He finds an old flame along the way that adds a complex element to the mix. This is a solid mystery novel and provides a satisfactory amount of suspense and punch in the end.
