Product Description:
When Alvin Limardo walks into P.I. Kinsey Millhone’s office, she smells bad news. He wants Kinsey to deliver $25,000. The recipient: A fifteen-year-old boy. It’s a simple matter. So simple that Kinsey wonders why he doesn’t deliver the money himself. She’s almost certain something is off. But with rent due, Kinsey accepts Limardo’s retainer against her better judgment…

When Limardo’s check bounces, Kinsey discovers she’s been had big time. Alvin Limardo is really John Daggett—an ex-con with a drinking problem, two wives to boot, and a slew of people who would like to see him dead. Now Kinsey is out four hundred dollars and in hot pursuit of Daggett.

When Daggett’s corpse shows up floating in the Santa Teresa surf, the cops rule the death an accident. Kinsey thinks it’s murder. But seeking justice for a man who everyone seemed to despise is going to be a lot tougher than she bargained for—and what awaits her at the end of the road is much more disturbing than she could’ve ever imagined…

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Delightfully horrible
Dealing with a typical loser? It's not like Kinsey doesn't face enough lowlifes in her career. And it all began with a lousy check. Of course, Kinsey has no desire to accept that and makes it a personal goal to track the loser down. What she discovers a long the way is that the guy is much worse than a bad check.

Grafton keeps the humour and the suspense flowing with her witty, observant dialogue and keen knowledge of her anti-heroine Kinsey Millhone.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Kinsey Millhone is My Hero(ine)!
I love everything about this character. Sue Grafton has done an exceptional job of creating a persona that feels real. The depth of all her characters and all their quirks and foibles make this a fun and easy read.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - D is for Darned Good
I read this book back in 1995 when I very first discovered Sue. Decided to read it again.

I had forgotten the story and characters so it was new to me. The murderer was a complete surprise. I hadn't a clue. The funeral scene was hilarious as other reviewers have said.

Another great book by Sue and wonderful to read on a rainy Sunday afternoon which is what I did!

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Light Mystery, Entertaining Read...
Yet another cozy read with private detective Kinsey Millhone. She's sitting in her office and a man comes in who hires her to deliver a check for $25,000 to a fifteen year old kid. Sounds simple enough, huh. Soon Kinsey learns the man has lied to her and the retainer check he gives her bounces. True to Kinsey, she can't leave it alone and soon finds herself caught in yet another mystery with potential deadly consequences.

As the series progresses, we learn more about Kinsey as a person, her idiosyncrasies, etc. I look forward to reading more of the series. So what if they tend to follow the same basic formula, it works.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Great book
I really liked this book. I couldn't figure out who did it until the very end about 2 pages before they tell you for sure. Sue Grafton is a very good writer and I read all her books. I recommend this book.
