I met Brandilyn Collins at the 2007 ACFW Conference. (American Christian Fiction Writers) She was such a delightful lady I just had to buy one of her books. (Like I need an excuse to buy books.) I had to limit my purchases somehow so I chose books from authors I met at the conference.
Before the conference I had checked out Brandilyn's blog, and read about the trauma she went through writing EYES OF ELISHA. So that's the book I bought. The cover looks rather spooky and while I love suspense and mystery, I don't do horror well. I put it on the back burner and read some of the other books first.
Then one day I got brave and read this book. It's not horror after all. Sorry Brandilyn, now I know you have never been classified as a horror writer. To make a long story short, I'm now hooked on this dear ladies writing. No wonder her tag line is "Don't forget to breathe."
If you like reading Iris Johanson's writing, you will love this book by Brandilyn Collins.

EYES OF ELISHA is an in-depth Christian legal thriller by Brandylin Collins. The book opens with a young woman being murdered while jogging in the park. Later, Chelsea Adams and her husband Paul are having a business dinner with Gavil Norwood. Chelsea has a vision from God (she's a new Christian and has had a few visions already) that shows the woman being murdered. Chelsea believes God is telling her that Gavil Norwood is the murderer. No spoiler here, you find all this out in the very first few pages of this novel. Chelsea debates what to do with her vision. She finally goes to the cops and tells them her vision. They don't believe her so she goes to the park and, on her own, finds the victim's body.
From this point, the plot follows a predictable path. The cops investigate Norwood, who claims to be innocent. Evidence is found, Norwood acts like a guilty party, then the trial begins. Meanwhile, Chelsea's family has doubts about her new faith and soon Chelsea begins to doubt her own vision. The trial portion of the novel is very good, very indepth and exciting.
I've read Collins last two Kanner Lake books VIOLET DAWN and CORAL MOON. These novels were great, and were also a quick read. I don't know word counts, but EYES OF ELISHA seems like it is twice as long as those novels. This novel is definitely too long, especially since it seems like all the major plot players and possibilities are introduced at the beginning of the novel. Of course, all is not as it seems, and there are several twists and turns. Unfortunately, it seems like that for 200 pages, the novel is going in one direction and has no chance of deviating from that path. Without going into spoilers, I can't really say anymore than that. I thought the book had a satisfying ending and payoff, but don't know if I'll check out the sequel to this novel. I urge readers considering books by this author to try VIOLET DAWN first.

Chelsi doesn't know how to explain her visions, only that she knows that they are from God. Premised on the story of Elisha, a prophet who received clear visions from God that stymied the enemy, Chelsi learns to wait on God's timing and to trust God's plan as a vision unveils a grisly murder, and while she is considered suspect herself--but for very different reasons.

This book is truly difficult to review. It's well written, kept me on the edge of my seat, I couldn't put it down, and think others would really enjoy it.
At the same time, I was disturbed at the level of violence, because I worry that our culture is becoming desenstized to it, and some of it seemed out of place in a Christian novel. It's not that I expected the book not to be a murder mystery. But it could have been a bit less graphic. For example, there seemed to be no reason for the graphic coyote scene.
