When I got "Vampire Kisses: Blood Relatives, Volume II" I was slightly intimidated by the fact that it was a graphic novel. I had never read one before and was slightly scared that I was not going to like it. I shouldn't have worried. I loved it! It was an amazing story! I loved how even though it is a comic book, you could really get a feel of both Raven and Alexander, as in who they are, and what they stand for. The only thing that was slightly annoying to me was the fact that it started with chapter 5. I hadn't read the very first one, so I was slightly lost at first, but as soon as I figured out what was going on, it was smooth sailing from there.
This book is about Raven and her vampire boyfriend, Alexander. Alexander's cousin is in town trying to find the vials of vampire blood that will turn him into a full vampire instead of just a half vampire. In doing so (being in town, I mean) he is messing up Raven's life. Now she is willing to do almost anything to get him to leave.
I really enjoyed this book because the characters were so gorgeous! All of them looked exactly like their description described them! I wouldn't change anything about it!
My absolute favorite part about this book was Alexander *sigh*. He seems like the most perfect person ever! He really cares about Raven and isn't ashamed to show it. He knows that his cousin is a danger to her and to her family, and therefore, he does every thing he can to make sure that they are safe. He is amazingly caring and sweet, plus he had wicked cool hair. I wish my boyfriend was like him (the vampire part would be amazing as well). "Vampire Kisses: Blood Relatives, Volume II" by Ellen Schreiber is an amazing book.

One of the better examples of Amerimanga that I've ever read, this installment of the Vampire Kisses series doesn't disappoint those looking for a good, humorous story with catchy artwork and likable characters.
I'd recommend reading the very first Blood Relatives installment before jumping into this one, as well as the novels, though one doesn't necessarily have to read the novels to be able to pick up the manga.
It's all just better together! If you like vampires and goth hijinks, then you'll love Vampire Kisses.

The plot was more involved than the very first book, which made me happy, partly because it was longer I suppose. Over all, I love the characters. They make these hilarious expressions at just the right moment! I honestly love all of them, even the side characters - for instance one of Claude's groupies ducks for cover when found in the bathroom because she's avoiding her lack of reflection being discovered and then she makes up some snarky comment about losing her contact lens. It remains just light enough throughout that even in tense situations there will be the occasional funny.
I'm looking forward to the third book! :3 Even more character and plot development I hope is soon to come.

I really liked it. I read it at a public library, having never read any of the novels, not being very interested in vampires, not caring about goth fashion ... and I liked it. So much so that I bought it later on, despite having already read it.
Over all:
-> I understand the plot with no back knowledge.
-> It was sort of cliche, but Raven is very lovable.
-> I totally loved Rem's art.
-> I am buying volume 2.

Cliche: 1. a phrase, expression, or idea that has been overused to the point of losing its intended force or novelty, especially when at some time it was considered distinctively forceful or novel.
2. most vampire-induced romance novels
Don't get me wrong, I love dark fantasy as much as the subsequent person but vampire romance novels like Twilight and now Vampire Kisses often make me question why I enjoyed the genre in the very first place. It seems now that every starting author feels the need to create a story that involves the stock characters of one sexy male vampire and one slightly emo girl and you got yourself hundreds of squealing fangirls who will buy your book and tell you "OMG! I LURVES THESE CHARA!" over and over again.
But let's move on to the actual book. Vampire Kisses is a manga version of a book in the same vein of dark fantasy wher girl meets hot creature of the night and stuff happens of that nature. The story is overdone and I think the timing for it is fairly bad considering how popular the Twilight series is right now and how every fan of that series is going to say this is a direct copy or love is to death.
On the plus side the art is actually very nice but you have to ignore the fact that you are reading the same vampire induced haze over and over again when you could be reading Twilight instead and quit beating around the bush already. Or read one of the many fancomics OF Twilight floating in the ether on deviantART or Photobucket or some other image based website.
I think my biggest problem with a cliche is that its not that hard to write a unique vampire story. Example: how about the vampire accidentically sucks on the blood of another vampire and is now changing into a horrible monster and only the human girl can help him? OR, the human girl needs to break a curse on her from a witch or something and the vampire helps and they fall in love. There. I just wrote an entire series with marketing capabilities.
But maybe I'm being too harsh. Maybe I should just open up myself to Vampire Kisses and embrace it. But when I do this, I just realize what I've known before - its not horrible. But its NOT GOOD. It brings nothing to the table. It takes nothing. Its boring but if you fear change thats just fine. I say skip it and go read something worthwhile. Like Biezenghast or Serenity Rose if you want to feel perky and goth.
In short: C- Try to not look at it too hard. You may go blind.
