Product Description:

The Rand scientific expedition entered the lush wilderness of the Amazon and never returned. Years later, one of its members has stumbled out of the world’s most inhospitable rainforest -- a former Special Forces soldier, scarred, mutilated, terrified, and mere hours from death, who went in with one arm missing . . . and came out with both intact. Unable to comprehend this inexplicable event, the government sends Nathan Rand into this impenetrable secret world of undreamed-of perils, to follow the trail of his vanished father . . . toward mysteries that must be solved at any cost. But the nightmare that is awaiting Nate and his team of scientists and seasoned U.S. Rangers dwarfs any danger they anticipated; an ancient, unspoken terror -- a power beyond human imagining -- that can forever alter the world beyond the dark, lethal confines of . . .

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - So far the best of Rollins
This is the 2nd of Rollins' books I've read. So far it is the best out of four. I couldn't put the book down. The Amazon is probably the best location for good scenery, natives, history, and a few MAYBE THESE ANIMALS DO EXIST. The adventure was never ending and the killings were just plain gruesome (man-inflicted, self-inflicted, and animal-inflicted). I enjoyed this book, and I think you will too.

Rated by buyers 3 out of 5 stars - Good start, but...
I must say that I really enjoy James Rollins' work. This book starts off strong, the plot is engaging, the animal attacks make you cringe. But the ending is downright ridiculous and very disappointing.

Rated by buyers 3 out of 5 stars - Good, Imaginative Yarn...
"Amazonia" is a story that is part mythology, part science fiction, part fact, part thriller, and the rest is some pretty fast-paced action! Rollins pulls off another good one, with this story of amazing secrets, lying deep in the Amazon jungle, where, quite literally, no man has ever gone before!

The basic premise of the plot is that something lurks in the Amazon jungle, something that has the power to spread the most dangerous contagion known to mankind, as well as to provide stem-cell-like regenerative powers to human bodies - a secret for which millions (of people) can be killed and billions (of dollars!) can be made. Naturally, it piques the curiosity amply, and the book quite literally grabs you by the neck, and the pace never slackens.

Like all such plots, there is a "good" team and a "bad' team in the same jungle at the same time, and the race is on - whoever reaches very first will lay claim to the biggest prize of them all - or will they?

There are numerous sub-plots, which, in my opinion, are a little over-done by Rollins. Whats more, in trying to make realistic characters, he ends up making them paper mannequins, with transparent feelings, and cliched reactions. Not many surprises - at least from the humans in the story. However, this lack of surprises is more than made up in the form of nature's killer herds, whether it be in the form of deadly land-enabled piranhas, or the locator locusts, or 120-feet-caimans, or half-a-ton-sized jaguars...

The plot moves at a very good pace, never letting down, with incidents filling each and every single page in the book. However, the weakest part of the story was the climax - which, in my opinion, at very first looked quite dragged out, and then ended before I could realize it!

Overall, a decent read, and will give you good company on a vacation.

overall rating: 3 / 5

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Entertaining Read without Effort
If you are looking for an entertaining read where you don't have to think very much, then this book might be for you. It has great detail but your belief system has to be put at bay when reading most of the science fiction, which there is more than needed; one man is fed by a tree root for almost a year. There was no mystery about any of the characters as they all turned out just as you thought they would when they were very first introduced; none of the good guys turned out to be a villain. I would not classify it as a thriller since a lot of the plot was predicable, but it will keep your attention.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Amazonia is "AWESOME"!!
I read all of James Rollins books & Amazonia is my favorite!! What more can you ask for? He gives you action & adventure. Talk about a roller coaster ride of a book. Read this book you wont be disappointed!
